Is it possible to have a grid layout showing single categories containing list of posts?

Hi! I am testing my new WordPress skills on a Vantage website to show a small island / tourist destination i Sweden. I would like to display information about “restaurants”, “sights”, “acivitities” etc. by inserting a “grid” showing these categories on the homepage. Understand how to make the “cell-layout” by using rows and columns in Page Builder but wonder if there is a widget enabling med to show the content of a single category in each cell, preferably with only a list of the relevant posts. Have tried the Post Loop and understand that it should be possible to limit this to a single category by adding “cat=x” but need more input. Have made a simple dummy on the home page using the Visual Editor for texts and listing links to post to show what I am after but expect this could be done much better. Am a beginner and do not understand very much about coding. Have a Vantage premium version but not order number
Where do I go to learn the necessary basics?

    Hi Marie

    To find out a post category ID go to Posts > Categories, click on the category in question and then check the url, there will be a single number in the url, that’s the ID. Using cat=x where x is the category ID (in the Post Loop widget) would be the best way to pull content from categories. You might try out Carousel template within the Post Loop widget. It’s not a list but will display small image blocks. Just ensure that each post has a featured image added.

    Hi! Thanks for responding so quickly. I will look into this during next week but would also like to have your advice on where to go to learn the basics when it comes to posts and categories?
    By the way, is it possible to have two different blogs on one website. I there a widget that enables me to have a blog ( “hello world” feature) on my home page without it being connected to existing posts and categories.
    Have a nice weekend

    For sure.

    The easiest way to launch two blogs would be to use the Post Loop widget twice. At the very bottom of the Post Loop widget is a field that says Additional. Enter an argument there as follows:

    cat=a,b,c,d

    Where a,b,c,d are the ID’s of the categories you want to display there. You can get category ID numbers by clicking on Posts > Categories, click on the category name and view the url, the ID is there.

    http://wpbeginner.com is good site for all WP questions.
