Hi I have created about 5 websites with your premium vantage theme. I’ve realised now that I need to install a child themes on each so that my settings aren’t overridden when I update your theme. Please can you give me instructions on how to do it in the shortest method so that the sites don’t go wonky for too long.
Also what is your advice on updating themes, how often should we do so? thank you
Hi Elise
Here are the quickest instructions.
Here is a link to a bare child theme for Vantage for you to use.
https://siteorigin.com/wp-content/uploads/2015/01/vantage-child-vanilla-enqueue.zip
Add this via Appearance->Themes and make it the active theme.
Activating a child theme does cause Customizer, Menu and Widget assignments to reset. So you usually have to go back into those settings and redo them.
Hope this helps
Magus
Hi Elise
The best practice is to always keep your themes up to date as these updates usually contain compatibility improvements and bug fixes.
Having said that, some updates may require you to rework parts of your site so it is always worth checking the forums when an update becomes available to see if there are any significant issues that may arise.
