I have 2 questions using the Vantage theme:
1. PageSpeed Insights is telling me to eliminate render blocking resources, and they specifically tell me to “inline critical assets”. How can I do that without a plugin? (already have 10 active and have had a lot of bad experiences with new plugins)
2. I have an eBay RSS feed enabled on a sidebar as an RSS widget. However, when I check “display item content” as an option, the Buy it Now and Add to watch list text is not linked to eBay like the item title is. Is there a specific requirement to get the text working so it actually links out to eBay for people clicking there?
(I have disabled it for now but you can see the widget at the bottom of the right sidebar on this page)
Thank you!!
Ben
Hi Ben
Thanks for posting your question.
1. Unfortunately, this isn’t possible without a plugin. We recommend trying Autoptimze. More information can be found in the following URL: https://www.wpbeginner.com/wp-tutorials/how-to-fix-render-blocking-javascript-and-css-in-wordpress/.
2. I’m not sure this challenge is related to Vantage. My guess is the problem lies in the feed. If you temporarily switch to a default theme like Twenty Nineteen and deactivate all plugins except for the RSS plugin, that should let you know whether the theme or a plugin is impacting the feed. If the issue persists then you’ll know the issue doesn’t relate to the theme or another plugin.
Thanks! The RSS feed seems to simply be one of the widgets available to me, I didn’t use a plugin to add it to the site.
Good information I can use going forward.
Ben
Thanks for your reply. If it’s the WordPress core RSS widget you could try the conflict test by temporarily deactivating all plugins and switching to Twenty Nineteen theme. That’ll let you know if the problem is caused by the theme or plugins.
OK thanks!
No problem :)
Just came back to say that I’ve installed Autoptimize and it dramatically sped up my page speeds! Thanks for that recommendation!
Thanks for the feedback. We’re really glad to hear Autoptimize helped.
