I am having a couple issues with the Influence theme that I need some help addressing.
1) It is prompting me to update “You have version 1.2.1 installed. Update to 1.2.1.”, even letting the update happen dosen’t seem to appease it. We get back to the same message.
2) I want to use a different header-slider for the home page. I need to have an image(s) with a text (or pagebuilder row) overlay. From the documentation it appears that I should be able to change the slider. “To remove the home page slider or select a slider of your own navigate to Appearance > Theme Settings > Home Page. Click on the drop down menu next to the title “Home Slider Area”.”
However the “Theme Setting” have been moved to Appearance > Customize and this option no longer seems to be available. I don’t see any other explanation of the short-code.
Thanks,
–Marshall
Hi Marshall,
1. That’s odd. Did this happen just recently or has this been happening for a while?
Consider reinstalling the theme to see if that helps. To reinstall Influence, please navigate to WP AdminAppearanceThemes and change to a non-Influence theme, then delete Influence. Click Add New and search for and Install Influence.
2. Sorry! The documentation is outdated – I’ll log that for rewriting, sorry abut that!
Please navigate to WP AdminAppearanceCustomize, Theme SettingsHome Page. Now you can set up your Home Slider (don’t worry, it doesn’t have to actually slide) by clicking the Edit Widget button.
Thank you for your quick response.
The delete and reinstall of the theme seems to have fixed the update issues.
I don’t think I stated my second questions clearly so let me retry: I need to change the header slider from the SiteOrigin Slider to the SiteOrigin Layout Slider. How can I make this change? I am assuming its a shortcode but I don’t see any documentation of the shortcodes.

–Marshall
Hi Marshall,
Awesome. :)
Oh. Well, sadly, you can’t directly do that. As a result, we’re going to have to do this via an alternative way. Please install amr shortcode any widget and then navigate to WP AdminAppearanceWidgets and add a SiteOrigin Layout Slider to Widgets for Shortcode widget area. Once you’ve finished setting it up, save and copy the shortcode it gives you.
Please navigate to WP AdminAppearanceCustomize, Theme SettingsHome Page and replace the Home Slider shortcode with the shortcode provided to you by amr shortcode any widget.
Good news the short code worked. It is now using the SiteOrigin Layout Slide !!
Bad news the text from the slider is not displaying on the site. Text is displaying in the widget preview but not on the site. You can see at http://onemansstory.curtis-assoc.com/ (ignore current images they need to be formatted for final)
Hi Marshall,
You’ll need to either disable the overlap or apply top padding to each of the sliders to ensure they do not appear underneath the menu.
Update: Found part of the issue. When I adjusted the layout to add 250px padding to the text so that it pushed down it replicated to all sides, the fit text was enabled so I was ending up with 3 white dots. With that fixed the text is now showing on frames 1 and 2 but not 3. Created frame 1 then duplicated for 2 and 3 and just edited the sub-title.
BTW the text is a SiteOrgin Header Widget.
I may just delete all the frames and recreate.

Update: I think I have it 98% of the way there. I deleted all frames and started over. Now it seems to be working with one exception. The sub-headline is supposed to be #e36c39 and it is still showing #ffffff. Not the end of the world.
Also, the theme update warning “You have version 1.2.1 installed. Update to 1.2.1.” is back.
If you have any suggestions on the sub-headline color issue that would be appreciated but not critical for now.

Hi Marshall,
Would it be possible for you to create a temporary admin account for us so we can log in and take a look at your settings?
I suspect you’ve found a bug with the headline widget inside of the layout slider so I just want to confirm that before logging it. As a temporary fix, please add the following CSS to WP AdminAppearanceCustom CSS:
You might also need to install the SiteOrigin CSS Editor.
I’ll also take a look as to why you keep getting the update notification.
This is a private message.
I am trying to create the account but Private Snippet is not a valid email address and will not be accepted.
Created account using privatesnipet at siteorigin dot com, please confirm or provide alternate.

Update:
I cleaned up a number of misc themes I was testing, including the default Twenty* WP Themes. The Twenty Seventeen theme was also indicating and update was available and after removing these misc themes the update message is gone from Influence.
Added suggested CSS and that works exactly as stated thank you.
Very impressed with your “free” support, it has made me very interested in upgrading to premium. I have had several disappointing encounters with paid provides leading up to Site Origin and you have proven you take care or ALL your customers and earn their loyalty.

Hi Marshall,
Huh. Odd stuff – glad you managed to figure it out mate.
I can confirm you’ve found a bug. I’ve logged it as an issue and it should hopefully be fixed shortly.
Thank you for the kind words! :)
