Icons not displaying

By calvins1, 9 years ago. Last reply by Andrew Misplon, 9 years ago.

Hi

I have seen reference to a similar issue from other people but not exactly the same issue. When I visit my website at www.all4paws.co.uk the search icon and the circle icons don’t display in IE or Chrome. In Firefox, it seems to redirect to just all4paws.co.uk where everything shows OK and in Safari it shows OK without seemingly redirecting (as indeed it does if going to http://all4paws.co.uk or https://all4paws.co.uk in any browser)

I raised this with the hosting support guys and their response was:

I believe the problem is produced by the theme that you are using for your website as it has cached the pages differently. When I switched the theme to one of the default WordPress ones, the two pages started looking identical. So I suggest you check the settings of the theme and flush any cache that it may have or alternatively contact the developers of the theme and ask them how to flush the theme cache properly.

Any help gratefully received please.

Thanks

Calvin

    Hi, I Work Here

    Hi Calvin

Sorry to hear about the hassle. No themes on the WordPress.org directory handle caching, that’s the domain of plugins. So it’s not directly Vantage that’s doing this. Most browsers don’t allow assets, like these broken font icons, to load across domains. When the url is different to the url the assets are being loaded from, the issue arises.

The problem seems to happen when www is used in your url. Normally www should forward to just http://
Please can you go to Settings > Permalinks and hit Save there. Then re-check the problem.

    Hi Andrew

No worries – I really appreciate your support.

In General Settings my WordPress Address (URL) and SiteAddress (URL) were both set to https://all4paws.co.uk. I changed both these to https://www.all4paws.co.uk and everything seems OK. I don’t know if this is the way it should be set but it seems to function so I wil leave well alone now!

    Best Regards

    Calvin
