I can’t resize my vimeo videos even when changing the embed code

By mediahammock, 6 years ago. Last reply by Alex S, 6 years ago.

Hi,

I’ve been trying to find ways to resize my vimeos, and I can not do it. I’ve changed the size using the embed code parameters for width and height and that has no effect. I found something about disabling fitvids.js, but I don’t see that in my theme settings. Is there a way to do this?

    Hi Mediahammock,

It does sound like FitVids.js is preventing the resize. Do you have a public URL where we can take a look at your setup?

    Hi Mediahammock,

I can confirm this is as a result of FitVids.js. Please navigate to WP AdminAppearanceCustomize, Theme SettingsLayout and untick the Enable FitVids.js checkbox. I personally would not recommend doing this as FitVids.js is there to ensure your videos are more responsive.

There is no such option listed in the layout section or anywhere else in the Appearance. However there is an option for “Responsive Layout” and underneath it, the description is “Scale your layout for small screen devices. Even with this unchecked, it still does not resize my video player. Anything else I can try?

    Hi Mediahammock,

Ah. I just noticed why. The version of Vantage you’re using is really old. For reference, the latest version of Vantage Premium is 2.6. Please fill out this form and you’ll be sent a download link. Download it, and then navigate to WP AdminAppearanceThemes and change to a non-Vantage theme, then delete Vantage. Click Add New and Upload Theme and upload/activate Vantage Premium.

Ok, but will I lose my site and have to start from scratch if I change to a non-vantage theme. I’ve always been terrified of trying a different theme for this reason. I don’t have a web developer that I work with, I’ve designed everything myself, as you can probably tell…lol.

    Hi Mediahammock,

Don’t worry, you won’t lose any settings by doing this as WordPress expects that you’ll need to disable/reinstall/manually update themes so they don’t delete your theme setting if your theme itself. Regardless, do a backup before proceeding. That way even if something goes horribly wrong, you can just restore the backup and your website will be exactly like it was when the backup was made.
