Http Error when uploading Media to Library

Hi Site Origin,
I keep getting the same ‘HTTP error’ each time i upload any new kind of media to my library in wordpress.
I deactivated the Vantage premium theme, installed TwentyFifteen and pictures would upload without the error message.
Can you explain why Vantage is preventing me from uploading images to my library?
All the best, Dan

    Hi, I Work Here

    Hi Dan

There should be nothing in Vantage to cause this. The only impact Vantage has on image uploads is that it creates 4 more sized copies of the images. the upload process itself is a core WordPress function which we have just added filters to.

Some plugins have been known to cause this issue. Can you try disabling all non-SiteOrigin plugins and see if this fixes the issue? If it does fix the issue, then try re-enabling your plugins one by one until the issue comes back. This procedure will help diagnose which plugin is causing the issue.

If this does not work can you please let me know what your PHP memory limit and Max_execution_time settings are.

    Thanks

    Hi Magus,

Thank you for your reply. I tried what you said and still had the same issue.

Like i said before, when i enable the TwentyFifteen theme and disable Vantage, all uploads of any image work…. every single time – that’s still the case.

When i have the Vantage Premium activated now, a few small types of files will upload (typically below 1mb) but for anything else i still get the HTTP error message. For example a simple screenshot of my Macbook screen will always upload, whereas a .jpeg image file that is 1.4mb’s won’t upload.

How do i find out the PHP memory limit and Max_execution_time settings if i am on a GoDaddy Optimized WordPress plan? With this package i believe they sort all the back end stuff.

    Hope you can help.

    All the best,

    Dan

    Hi, I Work Here

    Hi Daniel

Please install and activate this plugin

    https://wordpress.org/plugins/phpinfo-print/

When done navigate to PHPINFO and scroll down to the core section

You are looking for this section

    max_execution_time 0
    max_file_uploads 20
    max_input_nesting_level 64
    max_input_time 60
    max_input_vars 2000
    memory_limit 256M

Please post the same settings in a reply. I can then tell you what to get GoDaddy to adjust

    Here’s the settings

    max_execution_time (local) 30 (master)
    max_file_uploads 20 (local) 20 (master)
    max_input_nesting_level 64 (local) 64 (master)
    max_input_time 60 (local) 60 (master)
    max_input_vars 1000 (local) 1000 (master)
    memory_limit 256M (local) 128M (master)

    Thanks again,

    Dan

    Hi, I Work Here

    Hi Dan

The setting for all but max_execution_time look ok. If this is set to 0 then there should be no problems. If there is no setting or it is set to 30 this should be changed to 60 or higher. On slow servers or connections the upload and crunching process can take longer than 30 seconds (the master setting).

I have found a handy post on how you can alter these

Let us know how you get on
