I need help. I’m using Vantage Premium Theme for my WordPress website. I have some serious problems.
First, Tonight I received a report that no content was able to be viewed from a friend’s I-Phones. He could only see the header and the footer.
When I attempted to check things I noticed there was an update available so I updated Vantage Premium. Then immediately the entire website shut down. Now I cannot access the adm. Control Panel or my website.
I have no idea what to do. I am not a software engineer or programmer. I’m a novice in this area but had built a very nice site that has been functioning well until now.
Thanks!
Also happened to me…
I got this message, and now can’t get anything else.
Parse error: syntax error, unexpected ‘[‘ in /usr/home/sspj4909/public_html/speedandsportjournal.com/wp-content/themes/vantage/premium/extras/customizer/customizer.php on line 267
Ditto. Any solutions yet?
and here but it’s nearly 2am in the uk so i guess it’ll have to wait until the morning
I removed the theme manually and installed a previous version. This way you just have to reconfigure the them settings instead of your entire site. Then just don’t update the parent theme again until they fix this issue or use another entirely.
The old child theme no longer works as it is looking for the old parent = awesome. Recreating new child theme.
Here is a link to an old version of the vantage theme until they start addressing this issue. Would have been nice if they had tested the update first. Before breaking everyone websites…

Hi Everyone
Very sorry about this issue. We were phasing out support for versions of PHP that have been end of lifed (versions 5.3 and before), meaning they’re no longer supported by the PHP team and are no longer getting updates. This was clearly a mistake because some hosts are still using these old versions.
I’ve updated Vantage Premium with a fix that readds support for older versions of PHP. We’ll continue supporting PHP versions 5.2 and above for as long as possible. However, please consider asking your hosts to update their PHP version if possible. These old versions are no longer receiving security updates from the PHP organization.
You should all see version 2.3.3 available as an automatic update.
If your site is down, login to FTP and navigate to wp-content/themes/ and delete the Vantage folder. Then check your original order email and download a fresh ZIP file. Or install the latest version of Vantage free, then navigate to Dashboard > Updates, where you should see 2.3.3 update available. This is Vantage Premium. If you don’t see this version available, then navigate to Appearance > Premium, click “Already Paid” and enter your order number.
Again, very sorry. This was a mis judgement on our behalf.
Thanks for the quick update. Works fine on my end.
That you very much for the quick action. Site now back up and running.

Typo: of course the title of this thread should bet “…NOT Functioning…”.
Hi Greg,
Since I’m such a novice at this, I am really nervous about deleting folders as suggested. I don’t want to loose my website. Can someone help me walk through this maybe via a live chat. Better yet, If I gave someone access to my account, could someone make those changes for me?
Thanks – I am lost and nervous.
Jim
I was a little anxious too so i copied the vantage folder to my laptop before deleting it but deleted it, copied the files from the previous installation and all is good.
I know what you mean but a leap of faith is easier when you have a safety net ;-)
Bryan.
Yea! It worked. Thanks.
