Featured Images as Circles – Change “More Info” Text?

By Jane, 9 years ago. Last reply by Andrew Misplon, 9 years ago.

I have used the circles on the front and by simply leaving fields blank in the page builder when installing them, I have created a nice link under them that leads to the page with the text of my choice. So you can click on the either the circle or the text under it — for example, readings, mailings, social, etc. — to get to the page.

But when I use the circle for featured images in POSTS, under it says “More info…”

Shouldn’t it say, “Read more…”?

Is there anywhere to change that?

Also, will you ever include a feature to disable the top level of the menu? A lot of users have no idea that there is content under them, only the sub items, so they miss the first and most important page in the grouping!

Thanks so much, Vantage is becoming my MOST favorite theme, and perhaps the ONLY theme anyone would ever need!

    Hi, I Work Here

    Hi Jane

    Thanks for supporting SiteOrigin! :)

I’m not sure what you mean when you say you “use the circle for featured images in POSTS”
Could you perhaps post a link to your site so that I can take a look?

It is possible to disable the top level of the navigation menu. Go to Appearance > Menus to edit your menu. In the accordion on the left, click on the Links section. In the URL field type in # and use whatever you’d like for Link Text and click Add to Menu. You can now add sub menu items to this top-level item and it will not be clickable.

    Hope that helps!

OK, maybe in my haste I didn’t explain well. :)

In the settings for the theme, you can make your featured image be a circle, but with it comes a link that is basically a read more link, but it says “More Info…” which doesn’t seem appropriate.

But I am not sure how your explanation works to fix it.. . Would this simply make it text with no hyperlink? I will try it on a new install as a sandbox, cuz the site I’m working on already is live and working beautifully and I don’t want to mess with it.

    Thanks so much!

    Hi, I Work Here

    Hi Jane

Sorry for the confusion. That explanation was in response to your second question, where you asked: “Also, will you ever include a feature to disable the top level of the menu?”. I thought you were referring to disabling the top level items in the navigation menu. Could you perhaps try to clarify what you meant there?

As for you first request, it is possible to change the “More info” text with a child theme. You can use this one which has changed it to “Read More”.
    https://siteorigin.com/wp-content/uploads/2015/02/vantage-child-circle-loop-read-more.zip

You can install it by downloading the zip file to your desktop. Then go to Appearance > Themes > Add New: Upload Theme.

Preview it, to make sure you’re happy with the changes. Unfortunately you’ll need to redo Appearance > Menu assignment and Appearance > Customizer settings, which is normal when activating a child theme. One method for doing this is to have the Customizer open in one tab and then activate the child theme in a second tab, so that you can manually copy across all your Customizer settings.

If you want to change the text to something other than “Read More”, you can, with the child theme activated, go to Appearance > Editor and edit the loop-circleicon.php file on line 22.

    Hi, I Work Here

Hi Jane, hopefully Braam and I are following your menu question correctly. If we are then this is quite a common query. If you’d like a bit of a longer explanation, please see my thread here:
