Featured image suddenly get cropped height wise

11 years ago · Last reply by billc108 9 years ago

Hi!
Earier my fautured images in posts looks good an have accurate width/height proportions. But all of the sudden newly uploaded images with the same dimensions get cropped.

Examples:

Correct post: http://visavagen.samhall.se/juryordforande-aguren-att-bryta-utanforskapet-pa-arbetsmarknaden-otroligt-viktigt/
Image url: http://visavagen.samhall.se/wp-content/uploads/2014/08/mats_aguren.jpg

Incorrect post: http://visavagen.samhall.se/talare-6-hemlig-ett-tag-till/
Incorrect image url: http://visavagen.samhall.se/wp-content/uploads/2014/08/talare_6-720×380.jpg

Should be this url: http://visavagen.samhall.se/wp-content/uploads/2014/08/talare_6.jpg

So, somehow wp uses a cropped version.

How come??

Best, Jake

    Hi Jake

So basically what’s happening here is that Vantage has specified a size for the images, but WordPress is only uses that size for newly uploaded images. So the new way images are being displayed is actually the correct way.

This is easy to change though. You can use the Simple Image Size plugin to change the default post thumbnail size.

    https://wordpress.org/plugins/simple-image-sizes/

You’ll also need to regenerate thumbnails after you’ve changed this. Hope this puts you on the right track.

@Greg: Wohoo, it worked! Thanks a lot!

But I still wonder at which point wp “decided” to change the size. I´ve used the Vantage Premium Theme all along.

    Any clues on that?

Glad to hear it worked! The change should have happened for any new images that you uploaded after switching to Vantage. If you were still getting the uncropped images for any images you uploaded after switching to Vantage, then it’s possible the old size was being cached somewhere (by a caching plugin) and your its cache happened to expire recently.

With so many themes, plugins and configurations out there, it’s really anyone’s guess :)

Ok, for clarity: was it WP who set the 380px height as the default, or the Vantage theme?

I hate adding more plugins for something as simple as this. Can you point me to what I need in the code to change the 380px height? Some CSS maybe? I’m already using a Vantage child theme to accommodate a couple other changes.
