Estate

Can I eliminate sidebars from Estate or would it be better to use another theme and add my content by using page designer instead? Origami?

    Hi, I Work Here

    Hi Vitaminlee

    Thanks for reaching out.

    If you still need a hand with this, yes, you can. On any page while editing, check the right sidebar. You can set the page template to full width.

    With posts it’s a little harder. If you use Vantage and remove all widgets the sidebar won’t display. In Estate when you remove all posts the default sidebar widgets load. If you want help removing the sidebar for post single and archive pages, let me know and I’ll come up with something.

    Andrew, thank you – I want to publish pages only, no blogs, no posts, on a resource site for businesses and associations.

    Hi, I Work Here

    Thanks for the update. In that case you can set each page template to full width. Give it a try and let me know if it works for your purposes. The page template drop down can be found in the right column when editing a page.

    Thanks, Andrew – the pages i wish to change ate at hometeambenefits.com and (http://hometeambenefits.com) thehometeamhome.com. Both are now on WP Twenty-Fifteen theme. Can I switch to a SiteOrigin theme and eliminate the sidebar? (http://thehometeamhome.com)

  5. 8 years, 11 months ago Andrew Misplon
    Hi, I Work Here

    Sure, both Estate and Vantage have full width page templates that remove the sidebar.

  6. 8 years, 11 months ago vitaminlee

    All is well, i'm lovin' Estate. My latest question – how may I remove the 'Login' autopopulate with my email address and password?

  7. 8 years, 11 months ago vitaminlee

    Alright! Ignore my last post – I found the 'edit' function to take the link off the menu and make it private.

    Hi, I Work Here

    Super :) Glad to hear you’re making progress.

    All the best.

  9. 8 years, 11 months ago vitaminlee

    Andrew, my subdomain site, xyz.hometeambenefits.com, Estate theme, does not include a banner with the link to an icon. What am I leaving out? (http://xyz.hometeambenefits.com)

  10. 8 years, 11 months ago Andrew Misplon
    Hi, I Work Here

    Mmm not sure. Have you added a home banner from Appearance > Theme Settings > Home Banner?

  11. 8 years, 11 months ago vitaminlee

    Now I have – this theme is just perfect for my purposes. What to do with the Action button? Any ideas?

  12. 8 years, 11 months ago Andrew Misplon
    Hi, I Work Here

    Awesome :)

    The banner would often be used to push users to a page on your site. The action button might say “Find out more” and link to the page in question. Something like that..

  13. 8 years, 11 months ago vitaminlee

    My thought is to link it to a blog page which is not listed on the menu; either that or to a page for the enewsletters listed by month.

    I'm not yet certain.

  14. 8 years, 11 months ago Andrew Misplon
    Hi, I Work Here

    All good ideas. Whatever you’re keen to get visitors too.

  15. 8 years, 11 months ago vitaminlee

    I don't know what happened; I was editing at xyz.hometeambenefits.com, saved, went to see the changes and nearly all the editing is gone and there is a just a list of everything after the first row. What happened, if you know? (http://xyz.hometeambenefits.com)

  16. 8 years, 11 months ago Andrew Misplon
    Hi, I Work Here

    Your content has moved out of Page Builder into the Visual / Text tab. If you have Revisions enabled you can roll back. At Pages > Home click Screen Options top right and enable Revisions if the item is there. Then scroll down to below the Visual field to inspect revisions and choose one.

    If this happens again then you might be facing a plugin conflict.

  17. 8 years, 11 months ago vitaminlee

    Thanks, I'll take a look.

  18. 8 years, 11 months ago Andrew Misplon
    Hi, I Work Here

    For sure :)

  19. 8 years, 11 months ago vitaminlee

    Andrew, thanks – revisions permitted me to back up to the point where I began to edit using SiteOrigin Editor, Widgets, Design – see screenshot. Is that not permitted or did I make a mistake further downstream?

  20. 8 years, 11 months ago Andrew Misplon
    Hi, I Work Here

    Screenshots unfortunately can’t yet be attached to forum messages. You can however upload to your Media Library and share the link.

    I’m not quite following where you said: Is that not permitted…

    I don’t quite know what happened, not yet anyway. Is the page now functioning as expected?

  21. 8 years, 11 months ago vitaminlee

    I have been editing by going to a row, selecting Edit, which opens a box for Site Origin Editor, on the right side, selecting Design, editing colors and border as well as the text. All is well for awhile, then all editing and formatting dies and I have a simple list of row or column titles.

  22. 8 years, 11 months ago Andrew Misplon
    Hi, I Work Here

    This sounds like it could be a plugin conflict issue. Can you try disabling all non-SiteOrigin plugins and see if this fixes the issue? If it does fix the issue, then try re-enabling your plugins one by one until the issue comes back. This procedure will help diagnose which plugin is causing the issue.

    Once we know that, we’ll be able to look at what might be causing the conflict and either solve the problem or help you find an alternative plugin.

  23. 8 years, 11 months ago vitaminlee

    Alright, will do.

    Hi, I Work Here

    Super, let us know how it goes.

  25. 8 years, 11 months ago vitaminlee

    Active plugins: PageBuilder, Widget Studio, Estate Plus.

    Hi, I Work Here

    Hi Vitaminlee

    Would it be possible for you to create a temporary admin account for us so we can log in and take a look? You can create the account with the following email address:

    [email protected]

    Just navigate to Users > Add New in your WordPress admin. Enter siteorigin for the username and [email protected] for the email address. Make sure you’ve selected Administrator for the role and enabled the “Send Password” field so we receive the details.

    Once we’re finished taking a look, you can delete this account. We’ll let you know when to do that.

    Done

  28. 8 years, 11 months ago vitaminlee

    Do you recommend I use the Live Editor instead of the default editor?

  29. 8 years, 11 months ago Andrew Misplon
    Hi, I Work Here

    Completely up to you. Because I started using the plugin before we had a Live Editor I still feel more comfortable in the regular editor. It’s a personal thing though.

    Unfortunately, the login details didn’t arrive. Please, could you send them manually using the Private Reply checkbox bottom right.

    I just finished some editing, went to View Site – Nothing Found. Can you see what occurred?

  31. 8 years, 11 months ago vitaminlee

    Ignore my last post – I messed up, fixed it, all is well, mates.

  32. 8 years, 11 months ago vitaminlee

    I've encountered another stumbling block. An invalid URL has been substituted for the xyz.hometeambenefits.com and the admin extension. I was editing the 'Design' area for one of the columns. When that part of the editor wouldn't load I over rode the error message which prevented me from returning to the WordPress dashboard. One more lesson to learn. (http://xyz.hometeambenefits.com)

  33. 8 years, 11 months ago Andrew Misplon
    Hi, I Work Here

    Sorry to hear about the hassle. I’m not quite following your last past. Could you perhaps try explain again? Thanks.

  34. 8 years, 11 months ago vitaminlee

    The difficulty appears to have cured itself overnight. Thanks.

    Another question – how do I make the top and bottom borders of the second row on the same planes?

  35. 8 years, 10 months ago Andrew Misplon
    Hi, I Work Here

    You can try edit each widget and in the right column click Attributes, in the second field, CSS Styles, insert:

    min-height: 233px

    You can do this for both. Adjust the 233px value as required.

  36. 8 years, 10 months ago vitaminlee

    Oh, man, the day has arrived, Andrew! I knew sooner or later I would actually begin to learn some coding in WordPress!

    Thanks.

    Hi, I Work Here

    Awesome :) Glad to hear that helped.

    Good Monday morning, Andrew – two questions:

    Is there a formula for determining the number of pixels, such as x/sq in?

    Does SiteOrigin recommededt a protocol for producing a monthly newsletter in Estate? My sites have a blog page at present

  39. 8 years, 9 months ago Andrew Misplon
    Hi, I Work Here

    Hi :)

    1. There might be but it’s not something I’ve ever done. Can I help get the size of an element on your site? Send further details if that’s the case.

    2. Lots of options. You could use a third-party service like MailChimp. I’ve used it a few times over the years. They have a free tier:

    http://mailchimp.com/

    MailChimp might be the easiest.

    For something contained within WordPress, MailPoet is the big plugin to try:

    https://wordpress.org/plugins/wysija-newsletters/

  40. 8 years, 9 months ago vitaminlee

    Andrew, thank you – MailPoet is just what I need!

  41. 8 years, 9 months ago Andrew Misplon
    Hi, I Work Here

    Super :) Glad to hear that did trick.

    All the best.

  42. 8 years, 9 months ago vitaminlee

    I'm learning MailPoet – can I edit in MailPoet with PageBuilder?

  43. 8 years, 9 months ago Andrew Misplon
    Hi, I Work Here

    I’m not sure, we haven’t done any testing.

    Go to Settings > Page Builder, there you can choose which post types Page Builder is activated for. You might be able to enable MailPoet. Do a quick test and perhaps let us know how it goes :)

    Andrew, two more questions: can I use Estate and have no WordPress menu links on the home page? Is there an easy way to identify the HTML identifiers for the lightest shades of yellow, blue, tan, grey and red?

    • 8 years, 8 months ago Greg Priday
      Hi, I Work Here

      Hi vitaminlee

      Sure. To hide the entire menu bar on the home page, add to Appearance > Custom CSS:

      /* Home */

      .home .site-navigation {
      	display: none;
      }

      Or to hide the menu links but keep the bar and search field:

      /* Home */

      .home .site-navigation .menu {
      	display: none;
      }

      Hope that helps.

    Estate and PageBuilder work beautifully on my sub-domains. I continue have difficulty with login at my wp-admin site. My host company is BlueHost. I'm thinking there may be some conflict with the host and either or both Estate or PageBuilder. There has got to be some reason for this and turning off the plugins is not a helpful answer although it will work until I reactivate them. Any ideas from your perspective? I need a long term solution and ir may using either a different theme or a different host.

      Hi, I Work Here

      Hi Vitaminlee

      This isn’t a known issue with any of our plugins, but a surefire way to test would be to temporarily disable all your plugins and see if this fixes the issue.

      If it does, then you can reneable your plugins one by one until the issue comes back. This will help you identify the issue.
