    Hi Jan

    Thanks for reaching out.

The easiest way to install Vantage is from Appearance > Themes > Add New, use the search field at the top of the page to search for “vantage”. Install and activate from there.

If you’d like to install manually and are using Safari you’ll need to tell Safari to not auto-unzip your files. Here is how to do that:

    Hope that helps :)

Thank you so much. I am now trying to get the child theme set up. I have the child directory but don’t know where to put the style.css and functions.php.

Glad to hear you’re making progress :)

A child theme is only necessary if you need to edit theme files at a code level. Are you planning on making any code level edits? If you aren’t a child theme won’t be required.

Some how I got the idea that if there was an update/upgrade to the theme I would lose modifications that I would have made. Seems to be the safest approach?

In this case modifications only refers to code level edits. Think of it like this, all of your settings and content is saved in the database. The files that make the theme work, aren’t saved in the database. When you run a theme update we’re basically sending you a new version of those theme files. In order to do that the old files are overwritten. If you’ve edited those files at a code level, you’ll lose those changes.

Summary: A child theme is only necessary if you go to Appearance > Editor and edit theme files at a code level.

Hope that helps explain a little more :)
