I’ve never heard of a theme auto-updating itself, but recently some files have gone missing from my /vantage/ folder. My hosting provider says nothing was rolled back on my account. So I need to know: does Vantage have the ability to auto-update itself, potentially messing up my customizations?
Thanks for any help!
Hi Ersan
Sorry to hear about this hassle.
Vantage Free serves updates from the WordPress.org directory. Vantage Premium serves updates from the endpoint updates.siteorigin.com. Both themes use the WordPress update system which needs to be manually run. So the short answer is, no, Vantage can’t auto-update.
If you’re modifying theme files please remember to use a child theme: https://codex.wordpress.org/Child_Themes.
I haven’t heard of something like this before so I’m not sure what might have happened. Sorry we don’t have more here.
Thanks Andrew. Your reply is much appreciated. I just need to get to the bottom of this!
For sure. Some hosts auto-update WordPress, you’ll usually get a notification via email after that happens. I have that setup for some cPanel run hosting packages. However that wouldn’t change theme files. It’s just the only auto-update I can think of.
