Disabling Line Numbers in CSS Editor

Is there a way to turn off line numbers in the editor. Copying and pasting is a real pain with them on as the line numbers are auto selected when css code is selected. Thanks.

    Hi, I Work Here

    Hi Chris,

Unfortunately, it’s currently not possible to disable the line numbers. To clarify, this shouldn’t be happening. Does this happen for you when viewing the editor in another browser? If so, would you mind running a quick plugin conflict test?

Can you try disabling all non-SiteOrigin plugins and see if this fixes the issue? You’ll need to clear all your caches after disabling your plugins.

If it does fix the issue, then try re-enabling your plugins one by one until the issue comes back. This procedure will help diagnose which plugin is causing the issue.

Once we know that, we’ll be able to look at what might be causing the conflict and either solve the problem or help you find an alternative plugin.

If you aren’t using a SiteOrigin theme, then you can also try temporarily switching to one of the default WordPress themes to see if the issue is theme related.

    Alex,

I did find a workaround to the CSS code selection issue. I found this before having to check for plugin conflicts, which I ended up not doing as I didn’t want to take an active live site down.

Holding down the ALT key enabled selection of CSS code without selection the line numbers. Holding down the ALT key replaced the usual text edit pointer with a larger cross pointer.

This is on a Windows 10 system running Firefox 48. CSS Editor is running under Vantage Premium.

Please let me know if you would like me to investigate this use further, be glad to help.

I did duplicate the issue on a second site that runs Vantage Free with a similar series of plugins. I tested the second sites CSS Editor under the default Twenty Fourteen theme and the problem exists there too.

I tried selecting blocks of CSS code in the CSS Editor using Microsoft Edge (latest release, anniversary release) and found that holding down the left mouse button and dragging with the text selection pointer is broken, no code is highlighted, the pointer moves and is released where the selection ends but no code is highlighted. If you continue dragging off the edge of the code area the whole code area appears to float and for a second acts like it is being allowed to be a drag enabled object but quickly resets when the mouse button is released.

Holding ALT while selecting code blocks by holding down the left mouse button works.

Ok a problem with the ALT method… Both Edge and Firefox. Holding ALT only allows code to the left of the initial selection point to be selected. Any code to the right is ignored, is being clipped.

I ran Firefox in LinuxMint Mate 17.3 under VMware and encountered the same type of behavior.

Holding ALT in Linux moved the whole Firefox window, not allowing selection of any code.

Regular mouse selection also selected the line numbers in the editor area.

    Hi, I Work Here

    Hi Chris,

    Sorry for the delay.

Thank you for reporting the Edge issue – I’ve logged that.

To clarify, the issue you’re reporting is that when you select a line of CSS with the left mouse button, it also selects the row number. This is intended. So to clarify, is this number included when you copy and paste the data? I so, I can’t seem to replicate that. For reference, here’s what happens for me in FireFox 48 on Windows 10.

Would it be possible for you to create a temporary admin account for us so we can log in and take a look?

    Hi, I Work Here

    Hi Chris,

Thank you for that. I’m only able to kind of replicate this. For me, it’ll highlight the line numbers but it won’t copy them. For reference:

Regardless, I’m going to log this as something we should prevent (at least what I was able to replicate).

    Cheers Alex.

Ya, I like to copy the CSS from site-to-site via Notepad and the line numbers force me to edit them out. It’s an inconvenience but would be nice if it didn’t for sure.

I tried pasting the CSS code back into the CSS Editor edit area and get the line number issue also:

Would you like me to keep your account open for a while?

    Hi, I Work Here

    Hi Chris,

I understand what the issue you’re experiencing is. I just can’t seem to replicate it. :(

It’s up to you regarding the account. I’ll likely try a few more times but at this point, I don’t expect I’ll be able to replicate it. :( Regardless, we’ll look into it further and try resolve it via different means.
