I would like to re-set everything and start gain on my Focus Premium. I am a beginner at this and I just want to go back with a static home page with a couple of embeds, a posts / blog page I can update regularly, a contact page and a biography page. Have I got the wrong theme for this as it seems to be fighting against me.

At the moment I can’t update posts because they end up clogging my home page. I try to change that but can’t seem to locate the posts page…

    Hi, I Work Here

    Hi Mark

    Thanks for the wait here.

Just based on what you’ve said I’d recommend giving our Vantage theme a try. Focus is great but quite specific, so if it’s exactly what you need then great, if not, it can be tough to build the site you’re looking for.

With Vantage you’d use Meta Slider for your home page slider and then a Post Loop widget to pull posts onto the home page. Using arguments in the Post Loop widget you could decide what posts to display there. That unfortunately isn’t possible with Vantage.

We can migrate your license at no cost.

    https://siteorigin.com/theme/vantage/

You could try Vantage Free right now from Appearance > Themes > Add New: search for Vantage.

Let me know your thoughts and we’ll go from there.

    Thanks Andrew,

I'll give Vantage a try using the Post Loop Widget. Will let you know how I get on.

  3. 9 years, 6 months ago Andrew Misplon
    Hi, I Work Here

Within the Post Loop widget you’ll find a field at the bottom called Additional. It’s possible to insert arguments into that field as follows:

    cat=x

    or

    cat=x,yz

    or negatives:

    cat=-x,-y,-z

In each case, x,y and z are category ID’s. You can find a categories ID by going to Posts > Categories and clicking on the category in question. When viewing a category the URL will contain a single number, that’s the ID.

    Hi Andrew,

I have moved over to Vantage on your advice and it seems to be paying off. It gives me a lot more control: so thanks.

I have a slight concern. Tried to access the site on my iPhone (safari) to view the work I had done and it does appear properly. None of the images are there and when I try to access a post I get a message saying Safari can not access page as too many re directs occurred"

I would normally say this was I server issue but it seems to be working on the desk top and this happens on a day I have been working on the site. Could I have done something within Vantage menus?

    Hi, I Work Here

Glad to hear you’re making progress. Would you like me to move your license over so you can upgrade to premium?

I just tested on iOS Chrome and Safari. All looks normal. Not quite sure what the problem might be. I hate to say caching, not sure what else to try. Can you try clearing Safari’s cache and see if there is a change. Perhaps test from another iOS device if you have one.

    Hi Andrew,

Have upgraded to Vantage Premium and enjoying it. Having problems at the moment with changes in page builder (working on a post) not showing on the site. The video has but none of the text.

  7. 9 years, 6 months ago Andrew Misplon
    Hi, I Work Here

    Super.

Can you send a link to that page. Are you using the Visual Editor? Are the changes saving and just not reflecting?

  8. 9 years, 6 months ago markstreetfilm

    Sorry yes:http://markstreetfilm.com/proposal/

In the page builder it is set up as are the other two links / posts but for some reason it is not working. The only difference I can think of is that this post was set up since I have jumped ship to Vantage.

    Thank you

    Hi, I Work Here

Mmm not quite sure what’s happening there. That looks like an attachment page. Try un-attaching the media from that page.

  10. 9 years, 6 months ago markstreetfilm

    Hi Andrew,

Just a bit more info, the video is a url using the video widget which as you can se works fine. The text widgets which show up in the visual view are not showing up on the page. I have compared the other posts that work linked to a picture on the home page http://www.markstreetfilm.com and they are set up exactly the same? Don't know what you mean by an attachment page…
I'll try the attachment url again now the page has been set up.

    Hi Andrew,

No luck and really confused. It seemed to be going so well yesterday and seemed so easy. Very frustrating. Could it be that this post has been created in the Vantage set up where as the others were created in Focus?

    Hi Andrew,

I think it is to do with the attachment to the photo. Really weird but even though I put the post URL in is directed to the image attachments page.

  15. 9 years, 6 months ago markstreetfilm

Just a quick heads up. If it is to do with CSS codes and stuff please could you be really clear on how to find them as I am not good at that. I hope you have luck. I have spent a day on this and I am going in circles now.
Shame because yesterday was a good day. It is to do with attachments though and now it will not even let me past url images into the image widget, I have to do it by hand. It is going crazy. I have to leave it now. Hope you have more luck than me. What happened and why was it so great yesterday!?!

    Hi, I Work Here

Sorry Mark, not sure what happened there, I can just see “Thanks Andrew,” in your private message, nothing after that. This is a new forum feature. We’ll look into what’s going on.

Could you email those details to the thread via:

    [email protected]

    Thanks!

    Hi Andrew,

Noticed a private message after confirmation of login details received but have had no updates. Should I have received a response.

Going to spend some more time on this Saturday so fingers crossed for solutions.

Really do appreciate your prompt responses and patience Andrew: thank you.

That is annoying. I will check when I get home. Did you use the link I pasted below? This is how I get in.

    Thanks Andrew,

Just another clue to the problem. I cropped an image from the media library but on the homepage it doesn't show changes but links to the original picture.

Hope that helps and doesn't confuse the matter further

  27. 9 years, 6 months ago Andrew Misplon
    Hi, I Work Here

Images don’t dynamically load from the Media Library. They are inserted once. If the image has changed you’d need to re-insert it.

  28. 9 years, 6 months ago Andrew Misplon
    Hi, I Work Here

Pretty strange stuff. I haven’t worked with image attachments a lot so don’t have a lot of experience this department. Changing the post slug does resolve the problem:

    http://markstreetfilm.com/proposal-film/

That now loads correctly. For some reason the post “proposal” was going to the attachment page for this image: http://markstreetfilm.com/wp-admin/upload.php?item=654. Perhaps that image was attached to the Proposal post at some point.

There is a plugin option you could check out to reverse that attachment:

    https://wordpress.org/support/topic/detachunattach-image-from-post

Alternatively, the changed post slug (name), does the trick.

  29. 9 years, 6 months ago markstreetfilm

This has been the problem with all new posts. The image goes to an attachment page. This attachment page gets in the way didn't have it on Focus. If you made a change changed the original. Why an attachment page? Can I by pass?

Will be playing with it tomorrow. Not sure what a slug is yet but will research tomorrow.

What about text not showing when changes are made in the page builder? Is this the same issue?

Looking forward to getting started tomorrow. I can see the potential for a great looking site

  30. 9 years, 6 months ago Andrew Misplon
    Hi, I Work Here

A page slug is the url, the name of the link to the page/post, you’ll find it under the post title field.

Yes, this is the same issue.

Not sure why this attachment issue came up. Let me know how it goes tomorrow.

  31. 9 years, 6 months ago Andrew Misplon
    Hi, I Work Here

I created a test post here:

    http://markstreetfilm.com/test-post/

It’s only visible when logged in. Everything seems to be ok.

Let me know how it goes tomorrow.

  32. 9 years, 6 months ago markstreetfilm

    Hi Andrew,

"They are inserted once. If the image has changed you'd need to re-insert it." Not quite sure what you mean by re-insert: is that re-upload?

  33. 9 years, 6 months ago Andrew Misplon
    Hi, I Work Here

When you insert an image it inserts a set of static info. The image size, where it’s stored etc. If you then go update say the “Alt” tag info for that image in the Media Library, it won’t update on the page you’ve inserted it into. You’d need to re-insert the image to have the updated “Alt” info display.

    Hope that makes more sense.

I am having a nightmare and starting to loose my patience with this:

I have uploaded the Un Attach plug-in suggested and my computer went hay wire, the scrolling didn’t work it, the screen shook and I had to shut down the Google.

Logged back on and I just tried to change a url to link from the “Close
Quarters” image on the home page to the “Close Quarters” post and after pressing save page everything went blank and everything I had managed to do so far has disappeared.

This is crazy and I am trying to fix it again and basically start from scratch again.

I am considering just giving up on this.

    1) It is obvious that the urls for the images are not working but linking to the attachment which for the life of me I can’t figure out what the point of those are?!

    2) When I am on the page builder for a post and press “view changes” it takes me to the attachment of the picture even though the URL says otherwise.

I am going to try again but I seriously need something soon. Your test works but I can’t replicate that. I can paste a simple URL into the destination bar but…

    Hi, I Work Here

Sorry to hear you ran into a problem here. A server based installation of WordPress shouldn’t have the ability to crash your browser or affect local computer operations. Let me login and take a look.

  36. 9 years, 6 months ago Andrew Misplon
    Hi, I Work Here

I’m able to login. Let me run through your questions.

    1. Don’t link to attachments, you don’t need that functionality. It’s a feature that can allow users to browse through images. It’s an alternative to users landing on a blank page with just the image.

    2. Are you saving first or using the page/post preview function?

  37. 9 years, 6 months ago Andrew Misplon
    Hi, I Work Here

Which post are you working on right now? Let me take a look at that quickly.

  38. 9 years, 6 months ago markstreetfilm

I have just gone through and re uploaded the first two films "Insoma" and
"One Day…" everything worked fine. Got to "Close Quarters" and the same thing. It doesn't recognise the post destination url. Just takes me to attachment page even though I go through the same process and past the
"short link" url from the posts page?

  39. 9 years, 6 months ago markstreetfilm

Also the un attach plugin didn't allow me to upload pics. Just deactivated and now I can upload. Not sure what that has done to my computer yet

  40. 9 years, 6 months ago markstreetfilm

May have had some success. just re-uploaded an image and it worked…!
    Cautiously optimistic.

  41. 9 years, 6 months ago Andrew Misplon
    Hi, I Work Here

A plugin places a folder in the wp-content folder of your WordPress installation. It can’t affect the local operating system of your computer.

All good to remove that plugin.

    Ok, found the problem.

    Fixed: http://markstreetfilm.com/in-close-quarters/

What I did was locate that image in the Media Library, click Screen Options top right and ensure Slug (that’s the url name) was checked. Then I scrolled all the way to the bottom of that image’s media page here:

    http://markstreetfilm.com/wp-admin/post.php?post=672&action=edit&message=1

Edited the slug, it was the same as the page “in-close-quarters”.

Let me know if this makes sense. It’s how we can fix the rest of the posts. It won’t happen with new posts.

  42. 9 years, 6 months ago Andrew Misplon
    Hi, I Work Here

Deleting and re-uploading the image will do the same thing, so yeah, go for it.

Sorry man, wish I knew the cause. Never seen this before. Above is how to fix. Either change the media slug or delete and re-upload.

  43. 9 years, 6 months ago markstreetfilm

    Hi Andrew,

Seems to be back on now. I am going straight to the attachment edit page of each picture and copying that URL as opposed to the original but I am also making changes I need to make to the image on my computer first before uploading. Will look at your suggestions.

    Fall steam ahead!

For some reason the headers are not showing when I use a text widget just the text below the header in the main body? And the header above my videos on the home page (it used to read portfolio) has also disappeared. But these are small little changes compared. Making progress now. Cheers Andrew and sorry for the rant earlier.

  44. 9 years, 6 months ago Andrew Misplon
    Hi, I Work Here

Perhaps check Appearance > Home Page, you might need to insert a Visual Editor or Text widget somewhere to insert the desired Portfolio heading.

  45. 9 years, 6 months ago Andrew Misplon
    Hi, I Work Here

The post title here: http://markstreetfilm.com/in-close-quarters/ it is displaying but it’s white. Please check your setting at Appearance > Customize > Fonts > Page Title Color, that looks to be white right now.
