Hi guys,
<3 SiteOrigin!
I'm writing a proposal for an organisation to switch from their current CMS to WordPress+SiteOrigin Premium. Their current site is very basic, bar one feature–they have a big database of members with associated profiles. The current process is this:
1. Member applies for membership, filling in a form
2. A reviewer approves and hits publish
3. The content fills a pre-existing template
There are around 1500 members, the details for whom I have in a SQL database.
I'm smitten with the SiteOrigin custom post type builder, and am now trying to figure out if I can use it to recreate member profiles, but continue to have that member data stored in a databse, for max flexibility. It could be that this is via a PHP call, and I just, e.g., enter a particular ID number per member page. Or perhaps all member data is stored as individual metadata items, and is also copy-pasted into the custom post type builder (or perhaps it's possible to display custom metadata within the post itself, idk). The profiles need to be search/filterable, which is obviously a-ok with the capabilities of the premium bundle.
Does anyone have any inspiration or ideas? Am I being far-fetched? I guess I *am* looking for flexibility in almost too many places…
Thank you!!
Laura
Hi Laura,
This while possible is tricky, and you’re very likely going to have to touch code at some point.
Okay so my first question regarding this relates to this line:
> The profiles need to be search/filterable
What sort of filtering are you looking to do and in what context will the data be searched? The standard WordPress search? I ask as depending on your answer will likely greatly change how you accomplish this.
Hi Alex! Filtering will be done using, most likely, a filter/search plugin, and will be looking at items such as languages spoken, location, practice styles etc. Tbh I’m now thinking that the ‘Ultimate Member’ plugin would probably cover all of their needs. I remain very curious about the possibility of pulling data into custom post type builder pages (though am not sure ‘curiosity’ by itself merits a response). I’m not especially afraid of code :)
There’s no stress on getting back to me, given I think the other plugin will work, but thank you in either event!
Laura
