Contact Form test shows success, but no eMail arrives

Hi,
I’m building my WP-Site (theme tint) using MAMP and have added a SiteOrigin-Contact form. When I test it, it shows the ‘Success’ page, however no eMail arrives. The built in Newsletter (with Mailchimp) does work, so I can exclude an issue with MAMP. Captcha seems to be working, too.

Can you please help? Thanks.
Regards,
Kimberley

    Hi, I Work Here

    Hi Kimberley

Often, emails aren’t delivered properly from localhost developments. Do you have another server you can test from? Something else you can check for testing emails is your spam folder on the destination email.

The contact form uses the wp_mail function, which in turn uses SMTP or another server configured mail sending protocol. Mailchimp on the other hand uses Mailchimp servers to send email. So they are using different mechanisms.

Unfortunately, I’m not very skilled at anything web-like, so I would have to say, no, I really don’t have another server to test it on without uploading it to my real homepage server (which I won’t until I know that my build is not a catastrophe—WP is not easy for me). I used my eMail address to receive to and a few others of mine to send to. I read somewhere on the wp site about a special plug-in that will help mails arrive and log the activity (Postman) I’ve downloaded it but have it currently deactivated. I also have read that some servers treat wp-mails as spam and make them disappear. (I’ve had something similar happen from a fund transfer site—their payment mails self-destruct before showing in my mailbox, but their cancellation mails don’t)

Thanks. I will keep trying. And maybe, someday, somehow, I will get my WP-Site up and running.

    Regards,
    Kimberley

    Hi, I Work Here

Would it be possible for you to test another contact form plugin, like Contact Form 7? This would be a huge help in diagnosing if the issue is plugin related.

I’ll try it and get back to you.

I tried using contact-form-7. It gave me a ‘success’ but the mails (two addresses) never arrived. Also, could you tell me why I am getting strange and unwanted on my first contact form? (https://www.dropbox.com/s/oh0g340bxmuvlzq/Bildschirmfoto%202015-12-07%20um%2016.14.32.png?dl=0) )Please look directly below the words ‘need’ and ‘inquiry’. Thanks.

    Hi, I Work Here

    Hi Kimberley

It seems like your localhost isn’t properly configured to send email. You could try set it up to use SMTP to send emails. You could use something like the Gmail SMTP servers for this.

    https://wordpress.org/plugins/wp-mail-smtp/

That other issue looks like something is filtering the form content. That might be caused either by a plugin, or by a widget on the page with malformed HTML. The easiest way to test this would be to create a clone of that page, then remove widgets one by one on that cloned page until the issue goes away.

To test if it’s a plugin conflict, you can just temporarily disable all non-SiteOrigin plugins one by one to see if this fixes the issue.

    Hi Greg,

I am happy to say that I’ve gotten the contact form to work. I activated the plug-in ‘Postman’ that I downloaded yesterday. That helped the eMails get relayed to me. (And in an eMail that I can read. The eMail I received looks so much better than any form response I’ve ever built and received. The SiteOrigin form does work. It just needed a little help to work around the strato eMail server).

Thanks so much for your help on this matter.

    Kimberley
