Considering Upgrading to Premium, But…

My fear is that we have built our entire site on the free vantage… when we upgrade to premium will we have to rebuild our entire site?

    Hi Josh

Sorry for the late reply here. The upgrade process from Vantage to Vantage Premium uses the standard WordPress upgrade system. This means that the old copy of Vantage is deleted and Vantage Premium is installed in its place.

You wont lose any of your content, settings or images. The only thing that you will lose is any changes you’ve made directly to the theme files. The vast majority of users don’t make theme file changes though :)

Hi Greg, excellent thank you. So if I purchase the premium all the written content and slider images that I've created and uploaded to the demo home page will remain intact through the transition from the free to paid versions? I have gone into "editor" and edited any theme files, so if I am understanding you correctly this should happen seamlessly.

    Hi Josh

I have gone into “editor” and edited any theme files, so if I am understanding you correctly this should happen seamlessly.

Any changes you’ve made via Appearance > Editor will be lost. All WordPress themes completely overwrite their own folder during theme updates. There is a small popup warning when you enter Appearance > Editor but it’s easy to overlook. You’ll need to recover the situation before upgrading. Here is our overview of child themes, you’ll need to use one:

    Page: Child Themes

Here is a starter child theme for Vantage that you can use: https://siteorigin.com/wp-content/uploads/2015/03/vantage-child-starter.zip

In cases where you’ve edited a theme file directly, perhaps footer.php, you’ll need to make a copy of the edited file and paste that copy into your child theme folder. These operations are most easily done using FTP.

Once all of your changes are safely stored in your child theme you can upgrade.

Here is WordPress.org on child themes: https://codex.wordpress.org/Child_Themes

Sorry… I meant to say I have NOT gone into "editor"…. So, the slider,
images and all the content on the home page should remain intact, right?

    Hi, I Work Here

For sure :) Those are all safe. As long as you haven’t made edits at a code level via Appearance > Editor or any other means like FTP, you’re fine.
