Concerns with theme upgrades and translations
Hello,
I’m quite new in blogging and I am wondering of theme ugrades.
I don’t work with a local copy of my website (maybe it is a huge mistake…) so when I do some translations of your theme in french, I go directly to the wordpress and I change some sentences in the php files. And when I do something wrong, I take the official theme zip file and I send the initial php file with a ftp manager.
So, what is the best solution to translate your theme and to be sure that it will not be erased in a future upgrade? And is it a bad idea to not have a local copy of my website?
By the way, thank you for your theme and the forum. I often see and learn a lot in this forum.
Have a nice day,
Jérémy

3Hi Jérémy
Thank you for your kind words.
As a rule of thumb, it is always great to have a backup of the complete site so that you have something to roll back to if anything goes wrong. Therefore I recommend you have a local copy of your website :)
It is not advisable to make changes to core files of the theme instead you should use a child theme. Here is a guide on how to create one

You can use the following plugin to do your translations : https://wordpress.org/plugins/polylang/
I hope that answers all your queries. If not please let me know
Thanks a lot for your reply, I will try these things as soon as possible.
Perfect :-)
