Circle Widget Color

By Amanda, 9 years ago. Last reply by Magus, 9 years ago.

I am fairly new to WordPress. I am helping a friend build her website. I want to change the colors of the circles in the circle icon widget but am not given the options to do so as shown in the documentation. I have purchased the premium version.

use the “Icon Background Color” and Enter the Value in hex ie #000000 is black and #ffffff is white

you can use a hex color picker, on the online you could use http://www.color-hex.com/ for standard colors or make your own color using http://www.w3schools.com/tags/ref_colorpicker.asp or use http://html-color-codes.info/ this website also has video on it.

When I do that it doesn’t change the circle color, it puts a box around the circle with that color.

    Hi, I Work Here

    Hi Amanda

I have just looked at the site and cannot see a home page. Please check the following settings:

Appearance->Home Page: Custom Home page is turned on.
Appearance->Customize->Static Front Page: Static Front Page is enabled and Home Page is selected for Front Page.

    Thanks

Sorry about that. Can you try now?

    Hi, I Work Here

    Hi Amanda

It looks like you have added a background colour to the widget rather than to the icon. If this was the side effect of your earlier attempt please edit the Widget and open the design tab on the right. Click the button to select the background colour and click the clear button that appears.

On the left hand side, in the box labelled ‘Icon Background Color ‘, please enter the hex colour value of your desired colour.

As @Shrikanth noted you can use the colour picker at this site to get the correct value

    http://html-color-codes.info/#HTML_Color_Picker.

Once done your icon widget should be correct.

Let us know how you get on

So it appears I can change the icon color if I go into Appearance> Customize> Theme Design. But, if I am editing the HomePage and try to edit the widget, it won’t change the icon color (like you suggest Magus). When I do “Icon Background Color” on the left, nothing changes. It always stays black.

I would like all 3 circle to be different colors though…so if I change it in the Theme Design, they are all the same.

    Hi Amanda

Once you have made your changes to the widget in Appearance->Home Page are you clicking on the option at the bottom to Save Home Page? If so then there may be an issue with the Vantage installation.

    Hi, I Work Here

    Hi Amanda

One more question, if you don’t mind troubleshooting this with me.

    When you are entering the colour code into the box, are you including a semi-colon at the end, #000000 or #000000;

    Thank you

Magus! Silly me, I was forgetting the # at the beginning! That made the difference. Thank you for helping me troubleshoot. I appreciate it so much!

    Hi, I Work Here

No Problem. I am glad it is sorted. One more thing to note is that when you enter colour codes into widgets, do not include the closing semi-colon. The widget will add this for you.

Good luck with the rest of the site and if you need any more help, feel free to open a new thread.
