Changing the footer

Hello,

I am making a child theme from your vantage theme.

I would like to modify the footer a bit to add a custom menu in the footer. I have copied the footer.php file from vantage/parts theme directory and copied it into a similar vantagechild/parts directory.

I then change the filename to footerchild.php and the part name in the php file to footerchild and it successfully appears in the theme settings under footer layout.

However, when I select it and hit save settings I still get the default footer, not my footerchild.

Interestingly, if I leave the file name in my child/parts folder as footer.php the child theme footer does appear.

Is this a known bug, or do I need vantage premium to do this?

If you need more info I will happily provide more details.

Thanks,

Leon

Also, when the footerchild.php file is renamed footer.php I loose the option of the default footer in the footer layout of the theme settings.

    Hi Leon

You shouldn’t save your child theme files with a “child” suffix. Just placing those files in the child means they get priority over the same file in the parent theme.

    Hope that helps.
