Change Navigation Font Family

I have tried changing the font family for the main menu, but no mater what I do, it still looks the same. This is the piece of code I added to the custom CSS:

.main-navigation a {
font-family:  Arial, sans-serif;
font-size: 12px;
font-weight: lighter;
}

If someone can point me in the right direction. Thanks you!
