This is odd, but the CSS Editor essentially stopped allowing me to select elements.
I can modify the CSS textually, but visually … nope.
Note the selectors are missing on the page in the image below ????
Hi Miles
If the entire Code Inspector at the bottom of the page is missing then a JavaScript conflict is most likely the issue. Can you perhaps try running a quick plugin conflict test? Steps below:
//
This sounds like it could be a plugin conflict issue. Can you try disabling all non-SiteOrigin plugins and see if this fixes the issue? You’ll need to clear all your caches after disabling your plugins.
If it does fix the issue, then try re-enabling your plugins one by one until the issue comes back. This procedure will help diagnose which plugin is causing the issue.
Once we know that, we’ll be able to look at what might be causing the conflict and either solve the problem or help you find an alternative plugin.

Thanks for the update. Please, go to AppearanceCustom CSS open the visual editor and check for any Console errors.

Thanks. I don’t thank that’s related.
Would it be possible for you to create a temporary admin account for us so we can log in and take a look? You can create the account with the following email address:
[email protected]
Just navigate to UsersAdd New in your WordPress admin. Enter siteorigin for the username and [email protected] for the email address. Make sure you’ve selected Administrator for the role and enabled the Send Password field so we receive the details.
Once we’re finished taking a look, you can delete this account. We’ll let you know when to do that.

The Console is letting us know the following info: No inspector to highlight with.
I need to run a quick test with plugins deactivated and perhaps a theme change for 20 seconds. Do you want me to put your site into maintenance mode first?
Yes. Put it in that mode
Thanks.
The problem is somewhere in North. Please, can you login to your server and go to /wp-content/themes/ and download siteorigin-north. ZIP and please, send me that folder by uploading it to a site like Dropbox or https://www.wetransfer.com/. I’ll then need to compare it in a diff app with the original and try locate the change that’s the issue.
It won’t be a CSS change, so alternatively you can try remove PHP changes made and see if it makes any difference.

To be fair I had a remove a portion of the header file, and the footer. However, those changes would NOT affect the kinds of changes that we’re seeing in the CSS editor across the entire site. As this just started happening right after the latest update with north. Something else changed. I’m not laying blame here, but when I installed the latest version of North, CSS Editor stopped working. :-(
Thanks for the upload. I’ll take a look as soon as I can tomorrow, GMT+2. SiteOrigin CSS is working with North on my local machine. One of the advantages of using a child theme is we could quickly switch over to the parent at a time like this and confirm that changes aren’t affecting a plugin, in this case, SiteOrigin CSS. It would also allow you to update the parent without worrying about losing your changes. If you’d like me to assist with a child theme, please, let me know.
Assist away. However, child themes cause me nightmares.
The problem is being caused by a single extra close bracket in your footer.php file on line 39.
I’ve moved all of your changes into a child theme which you can find here: https://siteorigin.com/wp-content/uploads/2016/05/siteorigin-north-child-miles-01.zip.
Please, download the child, check the changes out. Once you’re satisfied they’re all there, install from AppearanceThemesAdd NewUpload ThemeActivate using the ZIP file or manually upload the unzipped file to /wp-content/themes/.
Once that’s done go to Appearance > Themes and switch to any other theme. Delete the North parent theme and re-install it so that you’re using the original theme files. Then, activate your child theme. Using a child theme will make troubleshooting challenges like this much easier.
Keep in mind that after activating a child theme you’ll need to redo AppearanceCustomize and AppearanceMenu Location settings.
Andrew You’re a miracle worker!
Every time that I’ve used a child theme in the past I have regretted it. It was one problem after another.
That was easy and painless.
Thank you sir.
Now I have one tiny little problem left…and that’s the fonts are all screwed up…I liked the font faces for NORTH. I’ll have to go back and re-enable them. I can do that myself.
Hmmmm…that gets me to thinking that now that I have a child theme…that I can now add another sidebar to the left side of the page.
Super, glad we could help :)
The theme slug changes when we activate a child theme so all the Customizer settings reset. I usually use a child theme right at the beginning of a project, just in case I need to make modifications at a later stage.
Don’t install this child theme but you can have a look at the start I provided for a left sidebar:

Sure :) Customizer settings reset when we activate the child so you’d need to head to AppearanceCustomizeBlog and disable the display settings there.
Andrew ?
How do I get someone to respond to another request that’s been outstanding for a while ?
I am happy to pay for support, but this is kinda holding up my development ?
