Hi – I have searched your forum but I cannot find a clear cut answer to this question. This is my webpage – www.kashmanconsulting.com. I want to add social media icons (i.e., twitter, linkedin, facebook) to the far right of my menu/header; inline with my menu. I would like to keep my Masthead Layout ‘Logo in Menu’. I can use either your default widget (Vantage Social Media) or another widget like Social Media Widget – no preference.
Great product and your assistance is greatly appreciated.
Thanks!
Hi Aushkon Foroutan
I am creating a child-theme for you with this functionality and I’ve marked this thread as a feature request. We often look through these threads to get ideas for what to add in our future updates. Hopefully, we’ll be able to add this in a future update.
As soon as the child-theme is ready I will post it here.
Thank You
Magus
Thank you! I am not quite sure what that is or what it entails. But I look forward to it and appreciate your help.

Hi Aushkon Foroutan
Don’t worry it’s not all that bad, and I’ll include full instructions on how to add and use it.

Hi Aushkon
Here is the promised child-theme.
https://siteorigin.com/wp-content/uploads/2015/05/vantage-child.zip
Please upload this to your site using Appearance->Themes->Add New but do not activate it yet as there are a few things we must do first.
When changing a theme you will lose your customizer settings, menu and widget placements and any custom CSS you have entered so you will need to make a list of what changes you have made to these.
Once you have this in hand you can activate the child theme. What this does is override certain parts of the parent theme, in this case Vantage Premium. Once this is activated you can re-enter all the lost settings from the original theme.
After this is done navigate to Appearance->Widgets and you will see a new sidebar area labelled Masthead right sidebar. Here is where you can add the social media widget of your choice.
I have found 1 issue with creating this but we should be able to fix that after the fact with some custom CSS.
If you get stuck or need help just let me know and if I am still online I will try to assist.
Magus
Thanks, Magus. I will try it out in a few hours. One question: When you say I will lose my customized settings, widgets, menu and custom css…that kind of sounds like my whole page. Is that right? What else is there besides those things, that will not be over written. I just want to make sure I capture everything I need. Thanks, again!
>
Hi Aushkon Foroutan
That is all that will be affected.
Magus
Magus – I want to make sure I understand what will be over written before I do anything. I am not quite clear. My whole webpage is made up of widgets
(eg. Vantage editor) – will I lose my whole webpage since the widgets will be lost?
Also – what is the additional CSS I need to fix the issue you mentioned.
Thx
Hi Aushkon
Sorry, I may not have been overly specific. The only widgets that will be affected will be those in sidebars, so the header/footer widgets and possibly page sidebar widgets if these are not default wordpress ones.
The additional CSS will be needed because currently the new sidebar gloats underneath the search icon. I will be looking into that to fix it on Monday.
Hope this clears things up a bit.
Magus
This autocorrect function in ie11 is beginning to be a pain. Please read as floats not gloats.
Magus
Magus – I have done everything you said but I do not see the social media widget. I see the Masthead Right Sidebar; I put the social media widget in there; but nothing shows up on my webpage. FYI – I was able to recover all my customizations and settings. I am attaching a screenshot to show you what I just said; but I am not sure if attachments will appear. Thx
Here is my custom CSS if it matter – Thx
/* move menu right */
.main-navigation ul li a {
padding-right: 10px !important;
padding-left: 10px !important;
}
/* Vantage Center the main menu */

Hi Aushkon Foroutan
I am not seeing that the child-theme I listed is being used on the page. The child-theme being used has a version no. of 2.3.2 whereas the supplied one has a version of 1.0.1.
Would it be possible for you to create a temporary admin account for us so we can log in and take a look? You can create the account with the following email address:
[email protected]
Just navigate to Users > Add New in your WordPress admin. Enter siteorigin for the username and [email protected] for the email address. Make sure you’ve selected Administrator for the role and enabled the “Send Password” field so we receive the details.
Once we’re finished taking a look, you can delete this account. We’ll let you know when to do that.
Thanks
Magus
Sure. But first can you tell me if there is anything else I needed to do…I installed the theme, activated it and then saw the new Masthead Sidebar…did I need to apply it to my homepage somehow? Thx

Hi Aushkon
There is nothing else you should have done. The bar should just have appeared in your menu but there is no sign of it being added. Something back-end may be stopping it from being applied.

I just sent you the account details. Please confirm receipt. Thx

Hi Aushkon
I have had a look. The issue was that you were running an earlier version of vantage. I have updated and applied the change for you.
In your custom CSS you have a section labelled to centre the menu. This may need to be changed to
We have an updated version of the Social Icons in the Widget Bundle.
https://wordpress.org/plugins/so-widgets-bundle/
I would also recommend updating the other SiteOrigin plugins you are running as they contain compatibility fixes for The latest versions of WordPress.
Magus
Great. Thanks. I'll check it out shortly and get back to you.

+1 for social media icons in menu :)
Thank you very much. It looks great!
Hi,
Thanks for the thread, I really like the social media buttons in the menu.
Anyway, to my question. Is it possible to have the logo in the menu in the centre and have the menu buttons underneath it? And obviously keeping the social media buttons on the right side of the menu.
Thanks
