Vantage Site Theme Preventing Php Update

I have the vantage theme on my WordPress site. I can not update the php and am being told it is because the theme is not compatible. My theme is Vantage 1.20.32 and it appears to be set up for auto updates. What are we missing or doing incorrectly?
