My Word Press Vantage Premium Theme often does not open on Internet Explorer 8 (a lot of people are still running old versions).
Is it possible to amend this so that it always opens first time.
Hi Robgreville
Thanks for reaching out.
Default Vantage with only SiteOrigin plugins running should work fine in IE 8. To confirm this, take a quick look at our demo site here:
http://demo.siteorigin.com/vantage/
How does that load on your side?
Thanks for your response.
Is it some of my other plugins then? If so, how do I find out which ones are causing the problems?
Could you confirm. How does the demo site load for you in IE?
I haven’t got access to a computer with an old IE on at present, so I’ll have to confirm with you next week.
For sure. Let’s chat then. Testing the demo will be a good place to start.
Hi Andrew,
The vantage dem site loads ok. I get the following error message though when trying to access http://www.ardens.org.uk/contact<http://www.ardens.org.uk/contact>
Webpage error details
User Agent: Mozilla/4.0 (compatible; MSIE 8.0; Windows NT 6.1; Trident/4.0; SLCC2; .NET CLR 2.0.50727; .NET CLR 3.5.30729; .NET CLR 3.0.30729; Media Center PC 6.0; .NET4.0C; .NET4.0E; InfoPath.3; Tablet PC 2.0)
Looks like the same issue:

Perhaps this more specifically:

Try testing in IE with all plugins de-activated except those made by SiteOrigin. So leave Page Builder and the Widgets Bundle ON and turn all other plugins OFF, then re-test.
Thanks
Hi Andrew
I think it was my contact form plugin called “Formidable Forms” that was causing the error/bug.
Can you recommend another contact form plugin that is compatible with Vantage and also old versions of Internet Explorer?
Glad to hear you made progress. Contact Form 7 or Ninja Forms should both do the trick.
Cheers Andrew
For sure :)
Hi Andrew
I'm still getting a problem
Hi Andrew
I've disabled and deleted all plugins but am still getting this error message when loading up http://www.ardens.org.uk/contact<http://www.ardens.org.uk/contact>
It seems to be worse is using it on old versions of internet explorer, but lots of my clients are stuck using old versions of IE and can't update to newer version. I've tried running your
http://demo.siteorigin.com/vantage/ which works fine.
This is the error message below: how can we find out what is on line 292 char 79 of the contact page?
Thanks
Rob

Apologies for the delay. There is an issue with the loading of your site in https. Are we certain that’s not involved in what some users are seeing? https://www.ardens.org.uk/
Line 292 of the contact page just has a div close:
I can’t think that would have any impact. Nothing going on there.
Are IE users just unable to access the contact page?
Hi Andrew
Thanks for getting back to me.
The site used to have a ssl certificate and so was https:, however the ssl certificate was removed and so it is now just http://www.ardens.org.uk
I therefore am not sure if this is what is causing the problem. Any other ideas?
Thanks for your feedback. If the demo site is loading then that’s a good benchmark. If you’re certain that all non-SiteOrigin plugins were disabled and the problem persisted you could try re-installing Vantage to make sure that code is fine.
How do I go about reinstalling vantage without losing everything I’ve got?
Assuming you haven’t edited any theme files at a code level via Appearance > Editor or other means you can safely do this.
Appearance > Theme, switch to another theme.
Hover over Vantage, click Theme Details > Delete bottom right.
Then re-install via Appearance > Themes > Add New: Upload Theme.
The premium ZIP file download link is in the original SiteOrigin order email. To get that email re-sent you can use:
https://siteorigin.com/orders/
Thanks, I’ve just uninstalled and reinstalled it.
I’ll try it again later this week on the work computers and will let you know.
Cheers again
Thanks :) Chat then.
Hi Andrew
My website http://www.ardens.org.uk<http://www.ardens.org.uk> now appears to be completely incompatible with internet explorer 8. It appears to work ok on IE10 and chrome, but not at all on IE8.
I’ve uninstalled and reinstalled the vantage premium theme, and have no other plugins except for the vantage recommended ones (eg metaslider and Black Studio Tiny MCE).
I’ve been browsing online for a solution but can’t find anything. I wonder if there is a bug in the website, possibly due to a previous plugin that has now been deleted. Is this possible, and is there a solution?
I entered my website into the W3C CSS validation service and it came up with a lots of errors, are they significant http://jigsaw.w3.org/css-validator/validator?uri=www.ardens.org.uk&profile=css3&usermedium=all&warning=1&vextwarning=&lang=en
The CSS errors you see in the validator are almost entirely due to certain rules being handled by browsers but not yet official therefore not okayed by the validator. Unfortunately, not much use to us.
Happy to continue troubleshooting this. Hopefully we can find a fix. Just out of interest:
http://caniuse.com/usage_table.php
IE8 is now 1.38% of browser share globally.
Will come back to you shortly.
I have a Windows 7 machine here with IE9 on it. In developer I’ve set Browser Mode to IE8 and Document Mode to IE8: Standards. The site seems to load fine.
Can you perhaps confirm how many machines the IE8 issue has been confirmed on? Is it a single machine with this problem?
Thanks for your comments/suggestions so far.
I’ve tested it on multiple work machines and they are all effected, they are all on IE8 and can’t be upgraded due to compatibility issues with other software we use.
I’ve tested the demo vantage website on them though, and it appears to work fine.
Over the last year or so, I’ve added and removed various plugins to my wordpress site, and I think these have effected it, possibly leaving so nuicance code behind when I’ve deactivated at deleted the plugin.
I’ve already uninstalled and reinstalled the vantage theme, but is there anyway of re-setting the wordpress site without losing all the content that I’ve added?
Hi Andrew
Is there any way you can easily look for bugs within WordPress? Or can you do a reset without losing your content?
We can start by doing a manual update:
http://www.wpbeginner.com/wp-tutorials/how-to-manually-update-wordpress-using-ftp/
After that we can look at the possibility of re-installing WP completely.
