I decided to update every thing on my website from my phone. The Vantage theme I have was also updated and in doing so it replaced my custom banner with the default one. This is annoying since I am not near my computer that has all my data for web developing and I wont be for the next week. I am not looking for a solution just lodging a complaint with the providers of my theme. Anyone that has custom work in the coding in their site be prepared to re-code.
Updating the theme is a bad idea.

Sorry to hear you lost your modifications. This is unfortunately the nature of all themes. When WordPress updates your theme it simply deletes the old version and reinstalls the new version. WordPress should give a warning of this before you update.
This is why we, along with the general WordPress community always recommend that you make changes using a child theme. Vantage is fully child theme compatible.
