Suggestion for editor- emulate word processors!

I try to point the way to UI improvement instead of just complaining. Sometimes it must be hard to see the difference.

Here goes…The editor is generally a pain to use. Functions we’re used to seeing in word processors just aren’t there, or don’t work well. Is there some way to incorporate (eg) a WORD-type interface?

Specifically, when I doubleclick a word in MS WORD, I get a popup with the option to underline, italicize, bold, etc., and it shows me the font and font size. (Try it.)

Using the editor, when I’m in Heading 3 mode and make a (numbered or dotted) list, it drops me back to default paragraph font! And then if I’m in a numbered list, it keeps dropping me back to paragraph style!!
It’s kind of like an overzealous waiter who takes your water glass and knife away as soon as you set them down!
I don’t want it changing formats on it’s own!
Also, when I’m using a heading (H3), and open the font and font size dropdown, the CURRENT size should be highlighted! As it is, I have to guess.
IF I use the numbered list in Heading3 mode, the numbers are in (much smaller, lighter) paragraph font. Blech.

SpellCheck! Grammar check! Auto-save!!
All the word processor tools we’ve grown accustomed to.
In short, more word processor-like.

A QUICK improvement you can make on the editor- over by the “Done” button (Which should be, “Save and Close”) put another: “Save and Continue.” Not as good as auto-save, but an improvement. Also get rid of the “Update” button label. It should be “Save”!! Why make changes in the interface for NO good reason?
