On the home page can not display new items!

New items? Are they new posts? I do not understand the issue well but try this (i hope it helps): in your theme settings>>blogs>>Post content, sellect Post excerpt and save. Then in wordpress settings>>Reading>>Blog pages show at most and put the number of posts you want to display.
Even if I do what you’re telling me you do not see the new post / items homepage!
I have a value of 5, and I see only one!
