Nesting in Page Builder

11 years ago · Last reply by Greg Priday 10 years ago

Hi,

Can I nest containers using Page Builder? For example, can I insert two columns inside an existing, taller column?

I have a number of layouts I need to do that are pretty easily supported by nesting and was hoping to replace all the hand layout with PageBuilder but right now I can’t figure out how to get containers to nest.

Thanks,

Laura P.

    Hi Laura

Unfortunately this isn’t possible with the current version of Page Builder. I have tried adding it in the past, but it adds a lot of complexity. It’s something I’d like to add one day, but for now, we’re trying to keep things simple so that the plugin can remain free.

    Greg,

Could you point me in the right direction? Where is the code, which disables this?

I just started looking into js/siteorigin-panels.js a few minutes ago and it seems that it should be where the insertion mechanism is prevents, unlike the widgets, that can be inserted easily into a cell.

Of course, afterwards styling and rendering work would have to be done, with which I am very comfortable, since we have extended SO to produce wrapper-less rows and cells and work with Twitter Bootstrap without any duplication.

    Greg,

Please ignore my previous message, as I just noticed a perfect solution to this, already in SO.

    Laura,

This can be achieved by simply inserting a layout widget, instead of a new row inside a cell. The widget is in the “Page Builder Widgets” group on the widget selection screen, and is described as:

    > Layout Builder
    > A full SiteOrigin Page Builder layout as a widget.

That’s right, the new Layout Widget introduced in Page Builder 2.0 is the ideal solution to nesting. It can be a little mind bending getting used to, but once you do, it’s really powerful.
