My version of PageBuilder not matching others; missing “Add Media” button, for instance

By miloshapiro, 9 years ago. Last reply by Andrew Misplon, 9 years ago.

as a somewhat new WordPress person who finds screen layout in WP frustrating, I was excited about implementing SiteOrigin’s “Page Builder” after watching Greg Priday’s YouTube video about it (https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=mL6iIV7JxLo).
It only took me 50 seconds into that video, though, for me to realize that my installation doesn’t look quite like the one in his video. Above the buttons with + and three lines, my screen shows my page’s permalink as compared to the “Add Media” button that Greg has. And instead of the three tabs that I see on his saying “Visual”, “Text”, and “Page Builder”, once I click the Page Builder” one, that changes to a button that only says “Switch To Editor”.
Since a picture is worth a thousand words, I’ve put a screen print of what it looks like to me at: http://www.improventures.com/temp/temp.htm .
Hoping it’s not going to be a question of what theme I use (Weaver II). And if that’s not the issue, I’m hoping that they’ve just developed the tool further so it just looks different now, but that leaves me stuck wondering how to do the equivalent of his “Add Media”.
Any chance there’s a newer video that is as clear to walk this novice through how to add images and video from my library, as well as other things one can do with Page Builder from S.O.?

    Hi, I Work Here

    Hi miloshapiro

Thanks for running Page Builder. We’re launching Page Builder 2.0 this month and will have a newer video out shortly after that.

The Add Media button was dropped for compatibility reasons. To add images now you can use the Image widget (PB) or our more advanced image widget contained in our Widget Bundle: https://wordpress.org/plugins/so-widgets-bundle/. Alternatively I can recommend the Visual Editor widget which has its own Add Media button. To get access to the Visual Editor widget first install: https://wordpress.org/plugins/black-studio-tinymce-widget/.

The Switch To Editor button is also a new addition. It’s not possible to edit Page Builder content via the Visual or Text tabs. Dropping these tabs while in Page Builder is a small step in clarifying that.

Hope that explains things a bit better.

Andrew, thank you! In reading other posts, I eventually stumbled upon the and “Black Studio TinyMCE Widget” option and can now work. It was a relief to discover that the video was just older with updates that felt like a step backward (not your fault…just that compatibility thing). It’s rare to see easier options disappear. ;-)

Before I look into the Widget Bundle you recommend, is it superior, more convenient, or easier than using the BS-TinyMCE Widget? If the process is simpler or quicker or superior in some way, I’ll check it out for sure. If it’s basically going to work exactly the same but through a different widget accomplishing it, then it seems silly to complicate matters further.

Very curious how PB2 is going to be different after just teaching myself this one. Wish someone had told me about this sooner; have driven myself nuts trying to make pages look good when this was just an option I didn’t know. That’s my biggest beef about WP. It comes with so little and you don’t know WHAT you don’t know to go add to it! Add-ons aren’t hard to add, but i didn’t even know this was a possibility. Here’s to 2.0 making it even easier?

    Hi, I Work Here

Sorry about the hassle. We’ll have new videos and content out shortly, just as soon as we get Page Builder 2.0 shipped later this month.

We don’t have our own TinyMCE widget and rely on Marco, the author of Black Studio’s support in this department. Black Studio TinyMCE and our Widget Bundle handle different tasks. But yes, personally I just the Visual Editor widget (Black Studio) for uploading all my media. It’s not necessary to use the Image widget in our bundle too.

I feel your frustration for sure. 2.0 will hopefully be a small jump. Everything very similar but different too. And some extra options.

    All the best.

Thanks so much. Sounds like, for the specific task of uploading images, I should stick with BS-TMCE. But you say that the Widget Bundle handles “different tasks”. is there other power i’d be losing out on by not also uploading this bundle…especially in terms of how it’ll all work soon under 2.0?

    Hi, I Work Here

That’s it. Black Studio does image uploading nicely.
