I have spent some time on siteorigin’s page builder and have also checked out vantage theme and it’s good but it seems the builder only allows simple static page designs and if you want to do complex design like a newspaper or magazine style homepage layout you need to know css/html coding. I would like to know from the developers or those who have used this page builder if this is how it is built or i am missing something.. i wouldn’t want to spend more time really as i have seen documentations, videos, etc. but don’t find easy way to create a layout and functionality i am looking for. I even don’t mind paying for premium version if there is something significantly more to it.
is it really wyswyg?

Hi Mayapur
Thanks for reaching out.
You can find Page Builder’s documentation here: Page: Getting Started With Page Builder. This should give you a fairly clear idea of what Page Builder actually does.
It sounds like you’re looking for a way to deliver dynamic content within Page Builder. If you have the SiteOrigin Widgets Bundle installed then you can do this using the Carousel widget. If you’re using a SiteOrigin theme you can also do this using the Post Loop widget. The Post Loop widget will work with any theme but looks for a specific naming convention when it detects templates to display posts with. SiteOrigin themes have those templates ready. The Post Loop and Carousel widget have a Query Builder that’ll let you choose specific categories or posts to display, if necessary.
Hopefully this helps get you started.
I mentioned I already have seen videos and documentation but nowhere does it say how to do magazine style, presentable, Post loop. The tutorials and videos only show some very basic stuff, helpful to some. I even tried your Vantage theme but it also has most basic layout for static content and adding Post loops or Carousels outputs terrible looking layout. I still believe there are ways to do it BUT it may be only with the help of manual coding, and that is the question I am looking for an answer to.
Thanks for your feedback.
The Post Loop (PB) widget shouldn’t be outputting a terrible looking layout if you select one of the following templates within the Post Loop widget settings (with Vantage activated):
Blog
Grid
Circle Icon
Slider
Carousel
With Vantage installed, this would be the only way to output post loops with a predefined layout.
In our Widgets Bundle we have a Post Carousel widget, it’s theme independent. At the moment, it’s the only loop option in the Widgets Bundle.
Manually setting up what you need is definitely an option but, unfortunately, beyond the scope of assistance, we can offer here on the forums. Perhaps, check out the Post Loop widget template options when using Vantage. It sounds like you might have content.php selected within the Post Loop widget when previously testing.
Hopefully, this helps to better explain what we can currently offer in this department. I’m sure our development team will have more widget options to help with magazine layouts in the future.
