Inactive sidebar widgets

I had a guy develop my site. Things did not end well with him, so I am trying to avoid any further conversation with him. He used his Headway account for my WordPress site and, in an attempt to have control over my site, I opened my own Headway account. The problem was that there can’t be two Headway themes installed on the same WordPress site at the same time. So a representative from Headway instructed me to switch the theme to a separate theme, delete the old Headway theme, install my new Headway theme, and then switch to this new Headway theme. This seemed to be successful until I noticed that all of the widgets in my sidebars went inactive. The Headway rep then instructed me to take this issue up with the Headway forums, which I did and was told that “WordPress handles the Widget areas when a theme is changed” and that “Headway has no control over it.”

So I’m hoping that someone will be able to help me since I’m basically following what Headway is instructing me to do.

Thanks, and I look forward to your response.

    Hi Eric

Are you using one of our themes?

I was using Headway, but switched because there were several places where my widgets were supposed to be but instead said “NO WIDGETS”. But when I check my widgets, it tells me that my sidebars are inactive. So I really need to know how to activate my sidebars, and hopefully that will solve my problems. The theme I’m using now is temporary until I can find a solution to my problem. Because my site was customized, much of the artwork still exists – not to the way I’d like, but it’s the best I can do for now.

    Hi, I Work Here

The reason I ask is that unless you’re using one of our themes or one of our plugins then it would be best to post on the WordPress.org forums.

Sorry – I kinda thought that’s what I was doing. However, I think my developer’s email is assigned to my login, and the password he gave me doesn’t seem to work. When I try to reset my password, I never get an email to reset it – I think it’s going to my developer’s email. WordPress doesn’t have a number to call and I can’t log into the support forums because, well, I don’t have a login. Can you help me at all? I would greatly appreciate any direction you could offer. Thanks.

    Hi, I Work Here

WordPress is an open source content management/blogging system. SiteOrigin is a private company, we create plugins for the WordPress system. So if this is a general query that doesn’t relate to any of our products then it would be best posted at: https://wordpress.org/support/. If you’d like to hire a vetted WordPress developer to assist we recommend https://codeable.io/.
