Image quality degradation

Hello,

First off, many thanks for this brilliant plugin, it’s hugely helpful!

I have, however, run into a problem with the quality of images displayed on pages using Page Builder. Trying to track down the cause of why some images showing on my website are of significantly reduced quality (where as the actual image files are sharp), at the minute it looks as thought it might have something to do with Page Builder. As a test I inserted one of the images in question on a regular page (not using Page Builder) and that image shows properly in full quality.

Is there anything I can try to fix this?

Many thanks for your time!

(P.S. I haven’t included a URL as the site is still in development and isn’t public yet)

    Hi Brixmu

Are you inserting the image into an Image Widget or into a Visual Text Widget?

    Thanks

    Hello,

    Thank for your speedy reply!

In the first instance I was using the Visual Text Widget, but then to try and isolate if it was a problem with just that widget, I also tried with the SiteOrigin Image in the Widgets Bundle and the result was the same for both: low quality image display.

    Many thanks.

    Hi Brixmu

When you add an image to either of these widgets you can select what size/quality the image is. Are you using the same image size as you are outside of PageBuilder.

    Hello,

Yes, the size option is the same on both.

    Thanks.

    Hi Brixmu

I have tested this locally and the images appear identically using both methods.

It could be a plugin conflict issue. Can you try disabling all non-SiteOrigin plugins and see if this fixes the issue? If it does fix the issue, then try re-enabling your plugins one by one until the issue comes back. This procedure will help diagnose which plugin is causing the issue.

Once we know that, we’ll be able to look at what might be causing the conflict and either solve the problem or help you find an alternative plugin.

    Thanks

    Hi Magus,

Thanks so much for your help, as I was going through the process of your recommendation (after disabling all other plugins and still having same issue) one further test occurred to me and that identified where the problem lay. Even though the image had been custom made for the area it was placed it seems to have been a few pixels wider than the width of the column. Once I made the column wider the picture showed in its full quality.

As a follow on question, within Page Builder is there a set width dividing columns that I can factor into my calculations when making images or resizing?

    Best.

    Hi Brixmu

Unfortunately not, columns are managed by percentages to keep them responsive. One possible solution is to set the padding of the widget in the columns to 0px in the Layout section of the widget editor.

    Hello,

No bother – I’m sure an element inspection tool can point me in the right direction. Once again, much thanks for your time.

    Best.
