How to add a grid of recent posts to homepage with featured image and text

Hi – I am on the Canvas Theme by woothemes and would love my homepage to change to help my readers find things more clearly.

I like this sites homepage – or bits of it! http://lovechicliving.co.uk/
And would love to know if it’s possible on pagebuilder to create a grid of recents posts with featured image and text as they have done here?

Also – grids for recent posts that are category specific?
