Hacked Site

By Della Gaite, 9 years ago. Last reply by Magus, 9 years ago.

Hi Everyone,

My site had been seriously hacked, so I basically deleted my whole site. I have got down to only having one page that says ‘Website coming soon’, but I have just tried opening the site on Safari and all the adverts are still there in the header and footer of the website.

I have paid for the premium on the Theme. I was wondering if it was possible for someone to send me what is supposed to be the code in the the Editor for the header and footer, or if someone can tell me a really simple way of deleting everything completely so I can just start again.

Also if anyone can recommend how I can ensure this doesn’t happen again. Any great plug ins?

I am really new to all this so it would be amazing if you can give me a very simple dummies guide!! :)

Thank you!!

    Hi, I Work Here

    Hi Della

I have had a look at your site page and can see nothing out of the ordinary. If you believe your site has been hacked I would recommend this plugin.

    https://wordpress.org/plugins/gotmls/

Once registered (free) it will scan your site and remove or clean any infections found. As well as protect your site from future attacks.

I personally think this may be an issue with malware on your system, or a PUP extension in safari so it may also be worth running a scan of your system.

    Hope this helps

    Magus,

I think you are absolutely right. I don’t use Safari and I only checked the website on there to see what it looked like on different browsers and I noticed that it had Yahoo as the default search engine, which I would never have set.

I have used the Mac cleaner and that has deleted three things. But the adverts are still appearing. I think I have broken it.

Now I have the issue of trying to reinstall the back up from Gridhost…I am totally lost.

Thanks for your help and for writing everything so I could understand it!

    Hi Della

You are most welcome. Although you should not need to reinstall your backup as the issue was with the computer.

If you need any more help please don’t hesitate to open a new support thread.
