A Few Questions

By b_boy02, 10 years ago. Last reply by Andrew Misplon, 9 years ago.

I have some questions regarding the free version of Focus.

1) Can widgets display on the home page?

2) Are there any plugins or built in features that allow visitors to like or dislike videos or use some sort of poll?

3) Is it possible to autoplay posts so, at the end of a video from one post, a video from another different post automatically plays?

Many thanks!

    Hi, I Work Here

    Hi

    1. In both the free and premium version of Focus the sidebar and footer are the only widget areas ready. There is no widget area in the home page.

    2. There are unfortunately no voting features built into Focus.

    3. Unfortunately not within the theme.

    Hello!

    Thank you for the swift response!

    I see there is a footer widget area on the home page so that’s great.

    One more question…is it possible to have a custom favicon?

    Many thanks!

    Hi, I Work Here

    Sure.

    We follow the WordPress.org guidelines with regards to the division between themes and plugins. As a result we’re unable to place a favicon field in our theme options. My recommended plugin for this is:

    http://wordpress.org/plugins/all-in-one-favicon/

    Hi Andrew,

    Thanks again for the swift response…really great of you to recommend that plugin, works a treat!

    One last question if you don’t mind. Is there some way to optimise Focus for iOS? Layout looks a little wrong on the iPad and terrible on the iPhone.

    Thanks in advance,
    Ben

    Hi, I Work Here

    Hi Ben, no problem. There is a responsive layout option under Appearance > Theme Settings > Layout but only in our premium version of Focus. If you head to Appearance > Premium Upgrade you can check out our premium offering there.

    Andrew….Thank you for all your help and advice. I actually have one more question then I promise I will leave you alone!

    Why is it that when I got to ‘slider’ in theme settings, any changes I make to the number of posts to display in the slider makes no difference to the home page?

    I want to display 6 like in the demo of the site but changing the number in the settings makes no difference. If I change it to 2 for example, it still displays all the posts I have done so far?!

    Hi, I Work Here

    No problem. Unfortunately a known bug right now. The hotfix is to select a category from the drop down menu. Once a category is selected the slider limit is adhered to. If you want to pull slides from all categories then create one category that all your posts are in.

  8. 10 years, 5 months ago b_boy02

    Ok so are you talking about the category menu on the write ‘new post’ page? At the moment they are all checked as uncategorised.

    Hi, I Work Here

    Appearance > Theme Settings > Slider lets you choose a category to select your posts from. So for example if you go to Posts > Categories and create a category called Videos and all all your posts to that category, then you’ll be able to select that category from the theme options slider page and your slide restriction will apply.

    I have tried making a category called ‘all posts’ and selecting that as the category for all my old posts…still no change then I alter the number of posts displayed on and below the slider!

    • 10 years, 5 months ago b_boy02

      Ahh I see, it’s a premium option.
      OK thank you for all your help, much appreciated!

    Hi, I Work Here

    So to confirm, each post is now added to this category called “All Posts”. Following that you went to Appearance > Theme Settings > Slider and opted to only display slides from the “All Posts” category?

    Hi, I Work Here

    Hi Ben. Apologies. The Appearance > Theme Settings > Slider: Filter by Category is a premium feature only. If you’d like to consider upgrading head to Appearance > Premium Upgrade to check the offering.

    Hello,

    I have just purchased the premium version of Focus and the fix is not working…still displaying more than the 6 I ask it to.

      Hey Andrew. Iv’e created a thread already but wanted to see if i could get a quicker response. so my issue is I am using Focus Premium and I am unable to add any background sliders from the plug-ins that I have installed (Full width background slider, and fullscreen backgrounds)
      I also want to be able to put the slideshow on my homepage which is a static page and then make other individual background images for each of my other pages which are categories.
      If there is no way for the sliders to work I would at least want to be able to sit different backgrounds to all of my pages.

        Hi, I Work Here

        Hi Sam

        We’re unfortunately working through a backlog at the moment due to higher than normal support load. Apologies for the delay.

        Focus unfortunately only has a slider on the default home page, it’s not possible to assign that slider to a static page. It’s not possible to create full width elements in Focus, other than the default home slider.

        We could perhaps assist with different pages using a different background image using CSS. I’ll pickup your original ticket as soon as possible. We’re working hard to try clear the queue, your ticket will be prioritised.

        Thanks.

          Ok thank you. As for the background images, could you assist with making them responsive.?

        • 9 years, 9 months ago Sam L

          And the logo also. Thanks Andrew

    Hi, I Work Here

    Try the following under Appearance > Custom CSS:

    /* Background */

    body.custom-background {
    background-repeat: no-repeat;
    background-position: center center !important;
    background-attachment: fixed;
    -webkit-background-size: cover;
    -moz-background-size: cover;
    -o-background-size: cover;
    background-size: cover;
    }

    /* Logo */

    @media (max-width: 480px) {
    	body img:first-of-type {
    		max-width: 90%;
    	}
    }

    The logo has no wrapper so I’m targeting it using what I can.

    Focus was built primarily to feature videos so I’m not sure it’s the most ideal theme for this site. https://siteorigin.com/theme/vantage/ is much more flexible.

    Remember that all changes made to theme files need to be placed in a child theme or they will be lost if you update the theme.

    I’ll pickup any other questions on your other thread. Thanks.

    Works perfect thanks Andrew you’re a genius. Don’t believe i made another thread wouldn’t know how to access it for this is my first time on here bu,t do you know how i can put a different background on all of my pages?

  18. 9 years, 9 months ago Andrew Misplon
    Hi, I Work Here

    For sure. If you can please open a new thread after this I’ll appreciate it.

    Page: New Thread

    You need to inspect the page source to add unique background images. Near the top you’ll find the body tag, in there you’ll see unique class. It’ll be in there somewhere. For example on this page: http://thebeautyreference.com/category/makeup/ the unique body class is:

    .category-2

    To put a unique background on that page you’d insert the following into Custom CSS:

    body.category-2 {
    background-image: url('http://urlhere.jpg');
    }

    Upload the image to your media library and copy the url from the right column box then paste it in where I have the test url above.
