Background picture and reducing widget padding horizontally

Hi I’m using Vantage Premium and I am new to both the theme and WP. Firstly, how can I stretch the background picture on the Homepage instead of duplicating it? Secondly, how can I reduce the padding of the widget on the sides/ horizontally so when I give the widgets background colors there is not…
