I get an HTTP error while trying to upload images. Certain images get uploaded whereas some refuse to get uploaded due to the HTTP error.
Please help
Hi Harkirann Wohraa
What HTTP error are you seeing, there should be a code. Without this it is difficult to discern what the problem might be but here are some things that may be worth checking.
When you try to upload media it should give you a max file size under the select files button. Please make sure your files are below this size. If they are then please check your ‘max_input_time’ setting in your php settings as you may be timing out.

There is no error code .. I only see an error message saying ‘HTTP Error’ in red colour. Below that it says ‘dismiss error’ .Thats about it..
The file size is only 800kb or so
How do i change the max input time.. please guide me as i am quite new to all this..
thanks
Hi Harkirann
Lets rule out a few possible causes. Here are a few troubleshooting steps to try in order.
STEP 1
Please disable ALL non SiteOrigin plugins and test the images again. If this works please enable the plugins one at a time, testing each time until the uploads fail again. This will help us to discover if a plugin conflict is causing the issue.
STEP 2
Please install and activate this plugin
https://wordpress.org/plugins/no-flash-uploader/
I know it is old but it will still work for our purposes. Once installed please try uploading the images again and see if you get the same problems. If you do please remove the plugin.
STEP 3
Check in your hosting control panel what version of PHP you are running. The version needs to be greater than 5.2.
STEP 4
If you are running on a suitable version of PHP please check which method your host your host uses to handle php files. This information can usually be found in the file extensions section of your control panel. If they are using Fast-CGI then please change to a different method, SUphp, Mod-Php or PHP-FPM if available and test again.
STEP 5
If the above does not work then please contact your host and see if they can provide error logs documenting the failure and then follow up with them about it
