WordPress 4.6 adds a host of awesome improvements that we’re loving, unfortunately, it caused a problem with the version update system used by our premium themes like Vantage and Origami Premium. In some instances, users have been prompted to downgrade from their premium theme version to the free version. For example, from Vantage 2.4.4 to Vantage 1.5.2. We missed this bug in our testing and are sincerely sorry for any hassles it may cause. The good news is that it’s relatively quick to fix and we’re here to help with any questions you may have.
If you’ve been affected by this downgrade you should see a notice from SiteOrigin in your WordPress admin area. The notice includes instructions to download the latest premium version of your theme which you’ll need to install manually, here is how:
1. Download the premium ZIP file to your desktop
Use the link provided in the WordPress admin area notice to download the ZIP file to your desktop.
(Please, note that the file must be in ZIP format when the download has finished. Depending on your settings, Safari browser can auto un-ZIP folders.)
2. Switch to any other theme and delete the free version of the theme you’re using
Go to AppearanceThemes and switch to any other theme. For example, you might switch to Twenty Sixteen or another default WordPress theme. Once this is done, locate the screenshot of the theme you wish to upgrade, for example, Vantage. Hover over the screenshot, click Theme Details and then Delete which is found in the bottom right corner.
This is a completely safe process, your content, theme settings, plugin settings etc. will be unaffected, no data loss of any form will occur.
(Please, not that if you have made code edits to your theme via AppearanceEditor, those changes will be lost in the update process. Move your changes into a child theme before updating.)
3. Install the premium ZIP file
Once your theme has been deleted you can now install the premium ZIP file. Go to AppearanceThemesAdd NewUpload Theme and use the select button to choose the ZIP file on your desktop. Upload and activate.
That’s it, you’re done. This is a one-time problem and no further action is required.
